If thats right, we should buy him as a stand in for Merlin when he needs a rest & to play instead of Nasri the rest of the time

I'd love to have Mata in our squad and, when our current, arguably indifferent form is hopefully rectified, I think he would flourish alongside our existing players.

If we wanted to sign him in January though, I don't know how much money would be available, given our FFP restrictions and the possible requirements for another striker. I wonder if any such outlay might be defrayed by using Sinclair, or others, as a make-weight in any putative deal.

Mata was outstanding at Chelsea before Maureen returned, so much so that some were even saying he was better than Silva, not for my money but his stats were on a par with our Dave to be fair.

As for Silva not being as lazy WW, I can guarantee you that given the choice Maureen wouldn't have him.

My hat is with Mikhail. Didn't score 20+ in a season once? It takes Silva four or five yeas to get that. Throw in another 15 assists and who cares how 'lazy' he is. The Ferns are there to do the donkey work
