So, this penalty

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

So, this penalty

Postby Im_Spartacus » Sat Dec 06, 2014 8:04 pm

Just watching Martinez' interview,

1: He says there was contact
2: He says Jagielka didn't get the ball
3: He says Milner ended up on the deck as a result of the contact

I just don't fucking understand how the hell he can talk that through with that logic and then say it's not a penalty.

As I asked in the match thread....how did Milner end up on the fucking deck?

Magic?

I also can't see how the commentators run through exactly the same points, agree on all this points, then say it's not a penalty

Everyone in the UK gives certain pundits shit, but over here, Clive Allen and Andy Gray are basically going mad, calling Martinez and Richard Keyes idiots and hypocrites for their stances on this penalty, and even have asked whether their view is clouded because Milner didn't appeal

It almost seems that if there is no appeal, it's not a valid penalty

Worlds going fucking mad!

Milner gets ball, Jagelka doesn't. Theres firm contact which knocks a Milner to the floor; everyone agrees there is no dive - and yet Shitknapp and Fat bastard on Sky say they don't think its a penalty? Id love them to explain that one to me.

If that challenge had occurred and attracted a foul decision anywhere else on the pitch it wouldn't even rate a mention. Just because it happened in the far corner of the box it is still a foul, and thus a penalty. Watch Ya Ya Toure's immediate reaction to the challenge - that tells you the ref made the right decision.

I think what he is saying is that football is a contact sport. And inevitably at some point there will be contact. And not all contact is a foul. I thought it was soft a fuck, so did jimmy.

But, it's about time we got a decision so fuck them.

I seriously don't think it was a penalty.

The contact was shoulder to shoulder.

Milner ended up on the deck but did not appeal and got up to play on.

Never a pen for me but hey we get one of these once a lifetime so I'll take it.

Seconded. Also, when they make contact, Jagielka appears to be taking the most direct route to the ball, while Milner is moving away from it trying to control it to create a chance. We were lucky with that, I think, although by the rules of the book you can't definitively say it should not have been a penalty. For those who are using the 'if it was outside the box' argument, if it wasn't given as a free kick, even at a crucial time of pressure, nobody would have batted an eyelid, either.

To those saying not a pen, have a look at Jagielka's right foot coming across Milner trying to nick the ball, Milner saw Jagielka was going to try nick it so shifted it at the last second suckering him in.

If Jagielka doesn't try nick it he doesn't foul him, he was stupid because he had Milner where he wanted him and there was no need to stick his leg across.

Definite penalty. What's criminal is that we didn't have another one in the first half for deliberate handball.

i didn't see it as houlder to shoulder, Milner went over Jagielka's thigh, eg, his outstretched leg that tried and failed to get the ball and this committed the foul.

I just can't see how there can be any debate. The stuff about 'if it was outside the box' is a red herring. Jagielka impeded Milners ability to chase the ball he had just touched away from him, by foul means.

You seem to also be suggesting that Milner not appealing has a bearing on whether its a penalty or not.......is he not playing to the whistle, like we are all taught and like the good pro we know he is?

Have we all become so conditioned to the bullshit of throwing yourself to the ground and rolling around on the floor to 'convince' the ref that, when you don't it can't possibly be a penalty?

100 % true , just reaction of Milner said it all , taking of the graund and going for ball. Lucky but fuck them . Also lucky Mangala did not get red for that insanity . Mariner call two big one for us , if i am Everton fan i would be insane mad.

How is there any question, are we saying Milner dived?

There's a definitive angle from higher up, behind, which shows the pace Jagielka is travelling at when he hits Milner. It's an absolute penalty.

It's a really fucking stupid challenge & that's not our fault or the ref's fault, it's Jagielka's fault.

If Milner had been Ronaldo, he would have flown 3 ft isideways, landed holding his neck & got him booked as well. It's purely Milner's strength & lack of exaggeration, which brings doubt.

That's what a penalty looks like, when the player doesn't dive; ie not very much. None of them are very much, they all dive, even when genuinely fouled.

If that's not a foul, then neither are most pens. There is more contact & more force that you would usually see.

You can bet your life, if at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were given that against us, to win the game, we would be spitting blood.

A home penalty and soft as baby shite. Still, it goes a small way to redress the balance of stonewallers not given thus far. Sky doing their best to highlight the unjustness of it in the hope refs revert to type and give us fuck all over the Xmas period.

I like the fact Milner just got up and played on after he was fouled. As does Kun. Integrity and class. You can't buy that, Jose, after that defeat at Newcastle, take a long, hard look in the mirror. I bet deep down in your core you don't like what you see

It wouldn't look like that if it happened at Stamford bridge. The player would go flying through the air leaving the ref with no option & we would all be calling Mangala a fucking clown for knocking him over.

Jagielka is the person who is at fault here, not the ref.
