You can bet your life, if at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were given that against us, to win the game, we would be spitting blood.

A home penalty and soft as baby shite. Still, it goes a small way to redress the balance of stonewallers not given thus far. Sky doing their best to highlight the unjustness of it in the hope refs revert to type and give us fuck all over the Xmas period.

I like the fact Milner just got up and played on after he was fouled. As does Kun. Integrity and class. You can't buy that, Jose, after that defeat at Newcastle, take a long, hard look in the mirror. I bet deep down in your core you don't like what you see

It wouldn't look like that if it happened at Stamford bridge. The player would go flying through the air leaving the ref with no option & we would all be calling Mangala a fucking clown for knocking him over.

Jagielka is the person who is at fault here, not the ref.

Mangala? Interesting you choose him. Vinny or Zabba or Clichy are just as likely as not this season to do something rash. By contrast, MDM looks like a piece of granite in comparison.

This can be debated all day long. There was contact. Minimal but contact all the same. The ref gave it, Yaya scored and we won the game. I personally think it was soft and if it went against us would be annoyed but we've had numerous stonewallers denied so this falls into the catagory of 'evening itself out'. There is more contact than that at every corner and free kick, yet those are rarely given

100 % true , just reaction of Milner said it all , taking of the graund and going for ball. Lucky but fuck them . Also lucky Mangala did not get red for that insanity . Mariner call two big one for us , if i am Everton fan i would be insane mad.

So basing decisions on players reactions, by your logic, when Ashley Young throws himself to the floor in the area, it's a penalty regardless of contact then?

Think about it for fucksake!

Doesn't matter who I chose, that's what people on here would be saying if one of our defenders did the same. Because the recipient would't just hold his ground & flop on the floor then get up like Milner did, he would fly off like he'd been hit by a train, & roll around looking hurt by the impact, the physio would be on,& all the talk would be about how stupid the challenge was, not whether it was a pen or not.

There is more contact with more force, than 90% of penalties. Most are just someone touching the leg of a player, they don't actually trip them up. This is a genuine instance of a player being knocked over by an opponent, in the penalty area. It's purely the fact that Milner doesn't milk it, which is causing questions.

As for incidents at corners & free kicks; they are NAILED ON penalties. It's just that refs have stopped applying the rules.

Well if he didn't dive, the only remaining question, is 'why was he on the floor?'

Is it because Jagielka came flying in from the side and impeded his progress?

Incidentally, Melbourne City notched up their first home win of the season 1-0. It was a soft penalty.

Coincidence?

It may have been soft, but still a foul, so it's a penalty.

Didn't think it was at the time. Seeing it on the telly, I can't quite understand the debate. Fouled in the box. Pen.
And don't use milners lack of a dive or appeal to suggest it wasn't a legit decision, it's what we all want to see in the game especially from our own. So that is nonsense.
Finally the ref was in an excellent position to judge it, so fair play to him.

No one's saying that Beefy. Football's a contact game, it's not either a foul or a dive, there's clearly a middle ground.

Again, no one is saying that. Obviously you don't give a decision based just on the appeal, but at the same time, players nearly always appeal when they think they've been fouled, often even when they don't, so it does seem strange that Jimmy didn't appeal at all.

That doesn't mean it's NOT a pen but it is worth considering.

One of the fallbacks for the ill-informed, football is not a contact sport, it's a limited-contact sport. Meaning in short, there is no amount of incidental contact that can be made that the ref can't, if warranted in his opinion, give a freekick/penalty for.

Yes it was, you know how I know it was? The ref blew his whistle and pointed at the spot. That's it, end of.

So it is a contact sport then, in the same way if you have 'limited' oranges you still have oranges. If a player goes down it's not necessarily a dive or a penalty/free kick. There is a middle ground where a player goes down from fair contact. Not saying that's what this was as my view was that it was a soft penalty but can understand it being given.

Penalty all day for me.
If one of our defenders made that challenge I would be livid at him for making that challenge when The player was going away from not the attacker for going to ground.
Stupid play from Jagielka.

At the time, from right behind it at the opposite end of the ground, I said it was soft and would have gone mad had it been given the other way.

Watched it on MOTD last night and although they said it was shoulder to shoulder, it wasn't - Jagielka's leg thumps into Milner between the hip and knee knocking him out of his stride. There was no way Jagileka could get the ball from where he was and he stopped Milner getting it, therefore a definite foul anywhere on the pitch. It doesn't have to be a more serious foul than anywhere else for it to be a penalty. Stupid, clumsy tackle from a defender cost them.

The only thing that can be said is that many of those types of foul aren't given in the area, but they are the mistakes, not this one.
