Roma v City

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Roma v City

Postby Mark Garrett » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:08 pm

Game is tomorrow night and it seems Fernandinho, Silva, Kompany and Jovetic all trained today so will hopefully be involved in some way.

Thoughts on the side? Can Dzeko lead the line so soon after injury as he did sluggish on Saturday?

I would narrowly favour Jovetic at the expense of Navas. Play Milner on the Right where he's more comfortable and bring on Navas second half against hopefully a tiring Roma defence. I can see the case for Navas starting though. I just hope Dzeko has enough puff to put in a real shift though.

I would say we needed Navas more than anyone to nullify Gervinho's pace, he caused us problems in the last game. I want Navas to be the defensive Navas as well as offensive from the off.

I'd like to see Frank start, he brings composure to our midfield, can spot a pass quickly and is more likely to stick one in the onion bag than anyone else who's available, bar Dzeko (on a good day!)

I'd go 4-6-0.

Hart
Zabba, Mdm, Mangala, Clichy
Milner, Fernandinho, Yaya, Lampard, Nasri, Navas.

Plenty of attacking threat there and enough in midfield that we control the game. I just don't think Edin looks fit and is likely to be a passenger and Pozo up front on his own just is not gonna work.

More attacking options on bench with Jovetic, Silva, Pozo, Dzeko, Kola all capable of a 15/20 minute game changing cameo. If Jovetic is fully fit then replace Lampard in the starting eleven

We need to press them like Bayern on there creative line , close Pjanic , Radja and Totti they are done , they dont have real Poacher or Target man.

Given the injury situation that, currently, we find ourselves in, I think there's some merit in that idea.

It certainly should be a fluid formation, although if we played it, I think we'd have to adopt a patient, possession game and just wait for the chances to eventually occur.

Lampard coming through stealthily from the deep could be quite effective in that set-up.

Swap Yaya for Jovetic & we're somewhere near (seeing as Yaya is suspended). But I would start Fernando, & bring on Frank later if needed.

Pep played vs us last season with Muller flitting about rather than staying up front, & Jovetic could do the same, with all 6 pressing in Roma's half. Then we have Silva & Dzeko to change it if we're not creating enough.

We allowed their fullbacks too much leeway last time & also that old cunt Totti.

Got to take care of the old cunt, he is the one we need to stop, he gets the place rocking we could be in for a very long night, if we score 1st they could fall apart, Mango has to stay calm, anything rash he will be gone, with the theatrics.

I think I'd be tempted to play with no designated striker, with Jovetic and Lampard playing in an advanced central role, Milner and nasri on the flanks, Fernando and Fernandinho behind them

We keep the midfield tight, deny them any space to create and hit them on the break with lampard arriving late into the box as he is still, probably the best in the game at this and scoring from midfield.

If it doesn't work, bring silva, dzeko etc on later on and throw the kitchen sink at them

If CSKA win, game over and it doesn't matter what we do.

If they draw we need a win.

If they lose a draw will do.

Strangely assuming they lose, it makes the home loss to them completely irrelevant to us vs Roma. (Draw and win we go through, roma win and they do, even with 3 extra points it doesn't change)

0-0 is no good. Roma then have better head to head as they got an away goal.
1-1 is OK as head to head is then equal, so it goes to GD which we have superior.

Pretty sure its H2H first, then GD, but this is a UEFA competition so suspect not even they are sure of the rules
