The group winners are all in one pot. They draw the first team from that, then a pot 2 appears with a ball for each eligible opponent.
So if Bayern or Chelsea were drawn first, we wouldn't be in the pot 2 group options until the next pot 1 team was drawn.

The bit that never seems to be explained, particularly in the group stage draw, is how teams from the same country are paired for tv. I understand why Sky & itv need 2 teams on a tue & wed, but how that plays out for last 16 I'm not sure.

I've watched every draw city have had in CL & come away each time thinking I've missed something. This season alone I still don't understand why we couldn't be drawn in Real ov Athletico Madrids groups & only Bayern.

Don't miss watching it. A work of art & the potential for mega corruption in front of all our eyes

Previously they've had one bowl for group winners, one empty bowl and bowls for each of the runners up (so there will be 7 City balls in City's bowl at the beginning?)

Once a team from group winners bowl is chosen, they place one ball from all possible runner-ups bowls to the empty one and pick the oppo from there.

So I'd imagine that's how it goes. But, this week I heard a conspiracy theory that the balls only look identical but they feel different and that's how they can pick certain team to play their opponents. Ie. if Real is chosen from the group winners, they take a slick ball from all the other teams' bowls but a sticky ball from City's. ;-)

I have a feeling we're getting Atletico, not really much better than getting Barca, only slightly better than getting Real.

Ahh well, we're playing the best teams in Europe at this stage, no easy games, they'll be shitting themselves as much as we are, we just need a bit of luck, about 11 injuries to them and a decent ref.

You have to beat the best to win it n all that.....

Yaya not available for the first match. Please be sensible two Ferns and Aguero up front on his own. In the second tie Yaya should play forward of a three or not at all. We cannot play Barca being outnumbered three to two in central midfield. By the way Barca are highly beatable; they're weak at the back. I fancy our height against their defence at set pieces.

I just hope that we do not show them the amount of respect we showed last year, Christ we were afraid in those games.
Get stuck in to them and they will buckle.

Spot on. We MUST to have a proper go at them this time. Win, lose or draw as long as I can hold my head high after the game I'm not that arsed what happens.
