He should have left years ago rather than give in to the threats to stay. At that point, with experience of another country's style of football, he could have pushed on, but staying at Liverpool, at times carrying them, turned him into a caricature scouser by the end of his career.

I think the problem was that he surrounded himself with the local bullies to make himself feel big, like cowards do, and he didn't have the bottle to move on when he wanted to because they warned him off it.
Apart from that, if not in Liverpool then where else would he find a jury will to find him not guilty having watched a video showing him, backed up by his 'gangsta' mates and punching the shit out of a barman who's only defensive action was covering his face to try to protect himself?
I'm actually amused by the comedy of the situation because the blokes a turd of a character but had enough in him as a footballer to have really been someone if his cowardice hadn't tied him to a shit club like Liverpool (shit once John Moores stopped pumping his pools millions into the club).
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

He has shit music taste.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

He was a damn good player at his peak. No point in denying that. Seriously under performed for England as did fat Frank. Numerous managers failed to get the best out of them playing together in England's midfield. Scholes was another wasted by England.

NYFC need a big name signing to replace Fat Frank but it looks like Gerrard's heading west. Could Sneijder be on his way to the big apple instead?

A despicable cunt both on and off the pitch. A good footballer who was for a while a very good footballer. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

Top quality player and a Liverpool legend who has carried them for the majority of the last 10 years.

He stayed loyal to his club so I don't see how he can be criticised for staying even if he was tempted a couple of times to leave.

He has been one of the best PL players out there and his slip last year just went to show how he'd fallen off the pace in the last couple of seasons. He did wonderful things for/at Liverpool that just couldn't be replicated for England. He will be remembered fondly by the majority of football fans and rightly held up as a legend of the game, even though he didn't quite fulfil his potential.

However, over the last few seasons he's become an obnoxious twat who has too much to say. His demeanour has changed somewhat over that period and his attitude to other teams in interviews really infuriates me, with an undercurrent of 'We're Liverpool, We have history', he seemed to think they should be revered for not actually doing a lot. The interview where he butted in on Mancini was the point that really showed his true colours, not respecting another team infront of the cameras was disrespectful in the least.

I guess he just knew he wasn't going to win the things that he wanted and turned into a spoilt brat, believing he was above it all.

He clearly had ability. That headed through ball to Suarez in the World Cup to put England out was wonderful. Perfectly weighted.

Is Gerrard Day nearly over, please? Sick of hearing about him now.

Think how bad it will be when Rooney retires(hopefully soon).

The most boring SKY football day ever and I doubt it will be just one day. God knows what the end of the season will bring.

I like him. He's had a great career - the PL being the only thing he hasn't won at club level. If I were him I'd be trying to get in at Juve or PSG just to retire with a domestic title under my belt.

Quite simply, yesterday was a great day to release the news after the Dippers fucked up again. The media now have a story as they were never going to run with the Rags, Chavs, Arse & Dippers all lost out points to the current Champions. It was never going to happen and the Gerard story washes all those tears away.
