you dont win anything with kids! Apparently.....well its a good rule of thumb, however, we do need to start blooding some, but we are not putting sides to the sword and when we do, we still dont bring them on. Prime example for me was the Crystal Palace game, cruising, 3-0, 80 mins we use our 3rd and final sub and we bring on Fernando, replacing Milner! We had Ambrose sat on the bench FFS.

I remember watching Ishmael Miller tear Newcastle a new one down the left thinking he might actually develop into what Heskey was at Leicester. A big rampaging bully of a winger. Limited, but fun. I thought Nedum should have been the kind of player that developed into our O'Shea or Phil Neville - solid squad players that would be with us for fucking ages. Kasper coming through and thinking we had our own great Dane.
I always thought Stephen Jordan was shite...
I digress.. but yeah I agree. It frustrates the life out of me. I'll be honest, I can't help but feel a tiny bit desensitised to big money signings at the moment. It's like getting everything you want as a kid; you feel a bit spoiled. Sometimes you want to work for something and do it yourself - I grew up when we were the plucky underdogs and watching us take a relative unknown and seeing them develop into our idols over team, be it good or bad (Kinky, Goater, Tiatto, Rosler etc) was always really really exciting. I know it's unlikely that we'll see us sign a potential star for next to nothing these days given the level that we're operating at so the next big thing I guess is bringing our own through. And we can do it.
I'm absolutely 100% convinced, like you and many others are Ted, that we have some players in our youth team that are nailed on to be great footballers and that there are some that can do it now. Not two years from now, but like, 24 hours ago. Yeah, they won't be perfect, but fucking hell, if Ferguson can NEARLY make Luke Chadwick a star - he played in the CL quarter final ffs! - then what the fuck does Brandon Barker have to do? You just HAVE to trust in youth. It'd change the clubs dynamic and the feel good factor around the whole Etihad Campus would be tangible. This bunch of players is ten times better than the players we had coming out of our academy in the early 2000s.
The current team selections in cup competitions are really really depressing and if I was Ambrose, Pozo, Barker, Celina, Bryan or someone like that i'd feel a tiny bit fed up. Justifiably I reckon. Last night basically sent out a message to the EDS team that most are miles off, and that's just unfair imo.

Fantastic post mate, I agree wholeheartedly.

In many ways that should be a little teaser of what should be having now. We have several players better than Robinho now and we have many youth players who will do more in the game that Ireland. We have to find out who sinks or swims. No excuses.

Coincidentally we were formally and officially announced as under ownership of the Abu Dhabi group that day, according to the BBC report I read. The Sheikh was introduced to the stars.
That day we had SWP, Richards and Ireland all starting alongside Established players such as Robinho, Elano etc. With a fourth academy product coming off the bench. Now imagine that scenario but with players twice as talented - that's what our first team should be in a couple of years imo.

Ched Evans scored that day.

Funny
Alan Pardew, the former Charlton Athletic manager, had been invited as a commentator on the BBC football programme Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night when the incident happened.
Pardew, 47, stated that Chelsea. midfielder Michael Essien "absolutely rapes" Manchester City player Ched Evans during a midfield tussle.
"He's timed it perfectly" he said.
"He's a strong boy, he absolutely rapes him" he adds.

It's not that I don't want kids coming through, I do, but the chances of it seem so remote, I'm assuming none of the current crop are anywhere near good enough. My lad's 9 and a huge City fan and season ticket holder, yet if he was asked to join the academy, I'd really need to think about it and I'd be pushing him round other local clubs. It pisses me off that the press go on about us not bringing kids through, but then I see the team against Newcastle or Wednesday and have to conclude that either they're right, or the current crop are rubbish.
I'm not really sure what's holistic about never giving kids a chance, even when there are no fit strikers.

If you are midfielder you have to be as good or better than nasri, Yaya, Milner, Lumpard, Dinho and big Dave. Now that is a big ask. And which youth player is going to dislodge one of the top five strikers in world football, from the team?

how are you going to ever know anything about the academy prospects if you care less? So you agree you know nothing, yet you slag off the decision to not play the kids you know nothing about? then you state you would really need to think about letting your City mad kid join what is going to be the best academy in world football?
That is staggeringly one of the biggest pile of bollox I have read.

I don't think people are talking about dislodging these guys. There has been a large number of opportunities for us to field some young blood over the last few years and we seem very relutanct to do so.
Either they're no good enough or we simply don't trust them. For a club that has just produced the best youth facilities in the world that seems a little contradictory.

Or maybe they are not quite ready and we dont want to ruin what could be....
Btw the world class facilities have been there for 30 seconds. What has that got to do with the price of fish?
