Wilfred Bony - possible January Signing

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Ian Nacho will be exempt from registration due to his age (I think) but he is still a gamble at this stage, so would signing Bony mean that we went into the new season yet again, with less than the 25 registered senior players allowed?

It seems if we sign Bony, signs point to Ross Barkley to replace jovetic and an English left back to replace Kolarov (how is Baines' contract doing?)

was wondering similarly, at least for chumps league registration.

if we sign bony who will be dropped?

i know kola is the the latest target for fan attacks, but we need two left backs in the squad.

maybe it's jojo or we have other moves we are working on.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... ester-city:

City have to include at least five homegrown players and a maximum of 16 who are classed as overseas in a Champions League squad that has been reduced to 21 because of Uefa’s financial fair play sanctions. Premier League rules allow no more than 17 non-homegrown players.

Manuel Pellegrini wants to add either Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala or Roma’s Mehdi Benatia to his central defence which would bring the number of “foreign” players in the squad to 18.

City would then not be able to register one of their overseas contingent for their 25-man Premier League squad and would have to drop two from the Champions League squad.

this was from an article i believe i posted from the guardian in august.

so with bony that would take us back up to 18 non-homegrown players again, no?

was sinclair one of our homegrown players?

EDIT: Just looked it up. no. and here's the list:

http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague ... lub=52919/

won't likely matter as we would surely register an EDS player in his stead (if we sell him), unless jovetic or dzeko are in trouble to be sent out or left out of the champions league.

surely jovetic is the more likely candidate if anything like that occurs.

i'd like to keep him though.

Players under 21 are exempt and are not 'registered' in the squad, they are essentially 'freebies' so don't count towards our quota. I think the purpose of the rule is that you don't take the piss by balancing out a senior squad of 18 foreign galacticos with 7 kids who will never play. So the 25 are made up of senior players.

he's scored more goals than Sergio in 2014 (granted, Sergio was hurt a lot) but i don't think we need 4/5 of the top scorers in 2014 (Bony, Aguero, Yaya, Dzeko)…and not at 30m or whatever. id rather we used that amount on other positions, like a left back to rotate with Clichy and another center back.

only because one could speculate that neither of these players want to be left out of the champions league squad, and then who are we going to leave out?

we can only register 21 this year. is bony agreeing to be left out as part of the conditions of the deal?

seems unlikely.

wait...

maybe boyata???

can we replace him with a EDS player to meet the needs?

Boyata is an homegrown player you great palooka, he came through our academy & has been on our books since 2006; the only senior homegrown player in the squad now Micah has gone.

We can have as many of the academy kids as we want in the Champs Lg squad, on the B list. We can use almost all of them.

Having done the ubiquitous Youtube session on Bony, I'm completely sold. I was very impressed with him v City at our place; it's the best striker we've faced this season, quite easily. but I was figuring that was a step up compared to his typical performance & not especially convinced by his credentials at that kind of price. Looking at various stuff on the net, he's led us a proper dance at times & made fools of our best defenders, & Nastasic, & he's scored against almost everybody who is anybody in the Premier League. Left foot, right foot, headers.

I'm not sure he is overpriced tbh. Didn't realise who his goals have been scored against. He can shoot from outside the box.

Sky put up a stat earlier which basically seemed to suggest he's about twice as good in the air as Dzeko. I thought he was better, but I didn't realise by how much.

He's a lot braver than Dzeko in the air, to be honest. He also works his arse off for the team.

He's a lot more physically strong than Edin. But he is a very skillful header of the ball. His heading style reminds me of Pele.

hah...well, cheers for making for that point. i do actually know all this. that boyata is considered homegrown, and that under 21s do not have to be registered (b list) etc. i'll fess up that i didn't take that into consideration while speculating aloud about how to fit bony into the champions league squad.

well then it's only logical that jovetic or dzeko will be those removed in some form if bony arrives.

Or if you like, we paid £16M for Negredo, sold him for £23M.
£30M for Bony -£7M profit from Negredo = £23M.

Bony=Negredo.

Heres a good interview from a few months ago to get to know him better:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... iew-strong

...another thing to note is that he is only 26, so younger than Dzeko and Negredo, but the same age as Aguero

This is, quite simply, nearly as good as centre forward displays get. And it was against us.

If he can perform close to this level every week for us he'll be outstanding.

Watch on youtube.com

Didn't realise he was this good tbh. His hold up play is brilliant and he can seemingly do it all.

Big and powerful, strong with the ball at his feet, fast over the first 3 yards, unselfish, head up, always looking for the next pass, an unerring eye for putting the ball in the back of onion bag AND HE SHOOTS WHEN CAN SEE THE GOAL!

Yep, I'll have a large portion of Bony, please; wrap him quick, 'cause I'll take him with me NOW!

He won't get anywhere near that here or anywhere else. It's bollocks. He'll get a package which is heavily incentivised to performance. That's the new policy for everybody ( except Messi in the unlikely event he comes here!). If he doesn't like that he can of course stay at Swansea.
