If you are midfielder you have to be as good or better than nasri, Yaya, Milner, Lumpard, Dinho and big Dave. Now that is a big ask. And which youth player is going to dislodge one of the top five strikers in world football, from the team?
I don't think people are talking about dislodging these guys. There has been a large number of opportunities for us to field some young blood over the last few years and we seem very relutanct to do so.
Either they're no good enough or we simply don't trust them. For a club that has just produced the best youth facilities in the world that seems a little contradictory.
Or maybe they are not quite ready and we dont want to ruin what could be....
Btw the world class facilities have been there for 30 seconds. What has that got to do with the price of fish?
Exactly WW.
Just going back to Piccs point. They don't necessarily have to dislodge anyone from the team, every now and again we may produce someone that can do that but what we should be looking at is producing squad players, we should be more than capable of producing a Milner, a Navas, a Fernando.
As for Jovetic, he wasn't great against Wednesday but I feel a bit for him getting compared to Milner because he didn't have Silva and Nasri sliding balls through to him when he was on the pitch whereas Jimmy did.
Milner made their cbs much more uncomfortable though.
Re the kids; the actual point is that there is little chance of these kids dislodging one of the strikers, or Nasri, Silva, Navas from the team. That's why games like Newcastle & Sheff Wed are so important for them. When else will they get the chance to make an impression ?
It's very unlikely that playing someone like Barker in either of those games, is going to cost us the match. If he was a cb perhaps, but up the other end, the worst that will happen is he has a bit of a quiet game & goes off, like Jovetic & Lampard did.
The difference being, the experience was absolutely nothing for Lampard, but could have been absolutely everything for Barker or Celina. Lampard will be back next week, they won't. And what if, instead of having a nothing game, one of the kids had played & been fucking fantastic ?
What would that have done for the team, the squad, the academy & the fans ? It would be the same boost we will get if Bony signs & is really good, but moreso, because it's a City kid. We had the opportunity to possibly do that, for hardly any risk, & picked Frank fucking Lampard instead.
