No matter how you interpret the rule, that was bloody offside.
You're right about going to bed, though, I think will poor myself a big whiskey and soldier on. This is depressing.

Crouch was offside when the original ball was played in, but that offside didn't affect hart's mishandling of the ball....a new 'phase of play' begins after as hart spilled the ball, Crouch couldn't have been offside as the ball came from Hart, not a Stoke player.
