The problem is Ted that there is now two generations who grew up knowing that every time they turned the sports channel on, the rags, liverpool, arsenal and latterly chelsea were going to be on.

Slowly but surely, they chose a favourite for whatever reason, and on the whole I reckon many have stuck with what they've known in the last two decades despite what we say about glory hunters, the rags won the league 2 seasons ago and still have some world class players (allegedly) and Liverpool incredibly seem to retain their following despite being shit.

Added to that, once you have a generation watching the rags, the kids have got some connection to affiliating themselves with the rags, or they subconsciously just grow up rags.

The only ones globally who will be turning in the telly now specifically to watch city are those who change their team as often as their underwear who are worth fuck all in terms of revenue long term (and I reckon there aren't as many as these as we would expect), and new fans to football. We might get some pockets of fans in Argentina interested in the Argentinian players, but when the players leave, some will stick with us, the rest will watch their football elsewhere.

In a couple of decades, if United win nothing and we win loads, we might be somewhere close to catching them.

There is only really one way to accelerate that

I think we are getting there quicker than that.

It may take 20 years in Ireland & Norway etc, but in the rest of the world, I recon we are making enormous gains, as I think the rags & Liverpool are smug cunts, who just assume everybody supports them because they are so fucking wonderful, when it's actually because they were the two biggest teams at the start of the tv 'revolution' Liverpool having been top dog for two decades & winning 5 European cups Utd becoming the tv top dog, allied to previous air crash inspired historical support

I think we have wiped the floor with them in recent years & are way ahead of them by comparison when they started exploiting the commercial aspects, & as regards building new support I think we will see the benefit of it in the not so distant future.

They may be outnumbering us 20 to 1 in somewhere like Dublin or New York, but I don't think that will be the case in newer markets, & in many parts of the world, ten years from now, I think we'll be giving the rags a close run & in some areas bigger. Be interesting to see what happens in New York too.

Not that I give a fuck from my own point of view, but it matters to the owner & they have decided to try & keep City down by engineering the competition to favour the 'bigger' clubs, so they have put us in that battle situation.

Regarding Dublin and the rest of Ireland for that matter, whether you regard us as supporters, fans or followers, or plastics or whatever, allegiances in general go back a lot further than just the premiership and quite often are going back to a time when you would see a lot more Irish players in the top teams. Whether we like it or not that includes a large swathe of the Rags and Liverpool support here. Allegiances, like in Manchester get handed down from generation to generation.
i.e. My young fella follows City, my mates two boys follow Liverpool, because he does.
I do think however there is a big difference talking to a seasoned United supporter and a 90's era premiership only, spoilt pup.
I fully agree that it will take longer to change here, but it has started. Don't underestimate the style of football we have played and above all the manner in which we have actually won things. I've said before, I went through my entire school life as the only City supporter I knew. Now, my lad has several mates in school who support City. One of them, his Dad is a united supporter, so more power to him.
I don't know what OD or Dubciteh's experience is but I would definitely say that it is not uncommon to see young lads in City jerseys about nowadays. It just wasn't the case years ago.
Today Dublin, tomorrow the world.

There is definitely more kids in City jerseys over here. There used to be none.
Our brand is growing all over the world - we're probably the fastest growing football brand in world football. Al we need is time and there's plenty of that :)
