Kolarov: ‘I’d like to return to Italy’
By Football Italia staff

Manchester City full-back Aleksandar Kolarov admits ‘I’d like to return to Italy’, with Inter among those interested.

The 29-year-old spent three years in Serie A with Lazio, before joining the English side for around €20m in 2010.

Kolarov played under Roberto Mancini when the latter was City manager, and has been linked with a reunion with his old boss at Inter.

Speaking to Sky after Serbia’s defeat to Portugal last night, the defender admitted he’d like to return, and praised his former club Lazio.

“I’d like to return to Italy, but it’s difficult,” Kolarov said.

“I’m happy for [Sampdoria Coach and fellow Serbian Sinisa] Mihajlovic, he’s doing very well, as are Lazio.

“They’re having a great season and I hope they can end it in third or even second place.”

Queue Yaya level of abuse......

Notice not 'cue' as I'm expecting overload judging by the Yaya thread..

"Id drive him to the airport myself." (tm Any football fan of a player they would be happy to assist in departing)

Id even pop Fernando, Boyata, Caballero and Ya Ya into his luggage.

The fans are already of the opinion he should be let go and maybe the manager/club think the same so this would seem to put the lid on it. But does one left back ( assuming Gael stays) mean we need to buy another or can Zaba/Sagna fill in if needed or is it time to promote a very young full back?

It's time to promote a very young full back.....or maybe two.

There have been so many names of fullbacks linked with City, that it looks on the cards we will be signing one.

I don't like the look of either Willems or Kurzawa defensively. In fact, when I've watched them they have been worse than Kolarov. Miles better going forward; faster, trickier & can cross. Willems has produced some fantastic crosses. But if they defend for City, like they do for their own teams...'danger, Will Robinson, danger!'.

I'd like to hope that Angelino is on the agenda, but it could be that they see him as the future replacement for Clichy, rather than for Kolarov next season.

But a squad pairing of say Wilems plus Angelino, is not the most solid defensively imo. Both of course can improve.

I think we will be in the market for a left-back in the summer - possibly Cresswell or that Scots lad at Hull - as I can see Sagna heading out too, which also wouldn't cause many tears around here.

Angelino would be the kid potentially ready for a game from the four or five times Ive seen him play though he is small - Doug and Ted have seen more of him so Id trust their views on this.

Assuming Denayer comes back in to the fold too, as a homegrown, we can add him to the defensive options too. Can he possibly play right-back, as I keep reading that his lack of height is his main problem?

Zabba and Clichy stay I think, Sagna and Kolarov go. 1 signing and 1 kid/homegrown added to solve the numbers issue. Then we can go and spunk our £150m on two of Pogba, De Bruyne and Barkley, plus Sterling. Lets say £55m plus Jovetic for Pogba from Juve - or maybe the monies rise to £60m if we have to throw in Fernando as well (arf); £45m for Barkley, £50m for Sterling.

Further up the pitch I can easily see Nasri, Navas, Toure and Dzeko all heading out, joining Lampard and Milner who are certs to go as well.

Not all of this will happen of course, but there will be a significant amount of ins and outs at City this summer, and Im now firmly convinced that unless we shit ourselves Pellegrini is here for 1 more year then Pep comes in.

"or that Scots lad at Hull"

Andrew Robertson, really impressed whenever I've seen him. He was let go by Celtic as a kid for being too small, looks like he has a point to prove, a bundle of energy.

I dont know why everyone is happy about this, it will cost us a fortune to pay him to go to Italy and we will have to pay his wages and bonus payments ;-)

If we want to go to the next level, we need a world class player, not Cresswell or that Scot lad from Hull. Unfortunatly, i have no idea where a world class player like that is available.

I would jump and say Alex Sandro or Danilo from Porto, but aren't we all sick of them?

Well, funny you should say that, this just popped up on my screen...........

Alex Sandro: Man City ready to force transfer

Manchester City are ready to force through a deal to sign Porto left-back Alex Sandro, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

The 24-year-old Brazil international is touted for a summer transfer and City are keen to land him the report suggests.

Spanish neighbours Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will apparently both rival City in their attempts to land the former Santos man.

He is not the first left-back to be linked with a summer move to the Etihad. West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell, who would come with the added benefit of helping Manuel Pellegrini’s squad to meet homegrown player quotas, has also been mentioned.

But today’s report suggests that City have got their sights set firmly on Alex Sandro. The article does point out that with the player by no means a regular at international level, he might struggle to secure a UK work permit.

City will apparently do their best to force through any deal regardless.

All the fullbacks we are being linked with, are more winger type fullbacks than old school ones, which points to a further move towards the Barca style setup. That, if true, would certainly mean goodbye Yaya, but whilst they all.seem to be left backs, we would need a really fully fit & energetic Zaba to play in that, to balance it out & certainly not Clichy.

But of course, this could be a two or three year evolution rather than an instant thing. Start with one left back, gradually introduce Maffeo & Angelino ready to go full time season two, Zabs poss goes season 3, another rb comes in or Smith Brown comes through under Zabs/Maffeo.

Intriguing period this.

I hope we don't sack everyone before we find out what the plan was.

Agreed. Not another Porto player.

They seem to have replaced Hamburg and Arsenal as our go to club for transfers.
