I agree with you on this wooders. Now they change the stance and say Jo's been sent back to City (The times anyway) and caught up in the details it says Moyes can then do some more loan deals. I think it's more to do with the fact that Everton have serious problems with injuries to key defenders and that they are stoney broke, more than Jo bolling off to Brazil when he's injured and written off for three weeks anyway. Suspending him means they don't have to pay him and that money can be used elsewhere if they send him back for apparent breach of discipline. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that Moyes concocted the whole idea with Jo anyway, so they could manouevre to get two loan defenders in.

It would be funny if Jo turned out for City in two weeks and pops up to score the winner against them though !

Do we know if they had any running debts, you know , like United OWE 800 mill ?

24 mill soon gets used up in weekly wages of some of the players these days. Even if Everton only pay an average of
50k per week to it's squad ( say 20 players) that's a mill a week. Of course they get money coming in from the turnstiles and TV too. Still they must be struggling right now, they can only get players on loan deals.

I was going to check their attendances so far this season, but I can't be *rsed, they aren't worth the time invested.

Much as I hate the waster this has to happen!

Tbh now the twat's back, I've changed my mind. Mancini should have one last try to get something out of him. He CAN actually play, it's just that he probably needs leaving in a dark room with Andy Morrison to bring it out of him. Mancini could have one last go at nicely persuading him to play football before we shoot him in the knees.

It's not about money, we pay his wages as part of the Lescott deal.

And me. They've no money and every penny is prisoner. I don't know what sort of proportion of Jo's wages they're paying but I'd wager that Moyes doesn't feel he is getting value for money.

The whole lot? Hhmm, that's very unusual. Not a bad deal for Everton, even though he is a waste of space. It blows my theory of this being a money thing out of the water.

Everton striker Jo faces £70,000 fine after flying back to Brazil without permission

Jo is facing a £70,000 fine after going missing from Goodison Park over Christmas - even though Everton do not pay his wages.

In an indication of Manchester City’s desperation to sign Joleon Lescott last August, it has emerged that they agreed to a request from Everton to keep Jo for a second season on loan without contributing to his £35,000-a-week salary.

Disciplined: Everton striker Jo (left) has been suspended by the club

Lescott completed his protracted £22million move to Eastlands, once the condition was met, but Jo looks to be heading back to City ahead of schedule after being suspended by Everton on Friday.

The Brazil striker, who has almost certainly made his last appearance for Everton, flew to Rio de Janeiro without permission just before Christmas and was told to stay away from Goodison Park after returning to England a week later.

It is understood he has gone AWOL on at least one previous occasion, and manager David Moyes is adamant there should be no further opportunities to test his patience.

Mindful that Ayegbeni Yakubu reported back late from international duty nearly two years ago, Moyes is wary of allowing any further ill-discipline to creep into his squad and determined Jo’s loan spell be cut short.

Though they do not pay any of Jo’s wages, Everton are also believed to be exploring ways of convincing City they are within their rights to dock him a fortnight’s money, following his unauthorised trip home.

The 22-year-old claimed he had a pressing personal matter to attend to, but Moyes was furious at not being consulted, particularly as Everton are depleted up front.

While negotiations continue with City over a possible punishment and curtailing the loan deal, Moyes chose his words carefully as he said: ‘Jo went back to Brazil without permission from the club. He is now back, but, at the moment, he is suspended.

‘I am disappointed, because we like Jo. He has been a really good lad, and we have enjoyed having him, but there has to be discipline. He left during a busy period for us, and he left us short of players, so I find that very difficult to accept. It is just a short-term thing at the moment, and that could change over the coming weeks, but, for now, that is the situation.

‘He went for his own personal reasons, and really that is all I want to say.’

With Yakubu having left for the Africa Cup of Nations and Louis Saha doubtful with a hamstring injury, Moyes may have to promote James Vaughan from the bench against Carlisle in the FA Cup on Saturday, even though the England Under 21 striker is short of fitness.

Goodness me. If there is any truth in that then it makes Hughes' pursuit of Lescott look even more desperate and ill executed than I thought. All in, Lescott has cost around £45Mil if you include his transfer fee, wages and this alleged Jo deal.

Yeah we could've not signed Lescott but kept Jo & saved the multi-billionaire Sheikh all that money so he could spend it on something better than City. Wanker Hughes.

All the stuff I've read says he's still at Everton after all so I've built up my hopes up of seeing him again only to have them dashed.

Not so much wanker Hughes but...

I'm no Hughes hater and wasn't part of the witch hunt. He embarassed us and was a fool in his pursuit of Lescott and if you can't see that, then hey ho.

I'm the opposite. To say I didn't like Hughes is understatement of the century but I thought Lescott purchase was, even at the over the top price, needed. We desperately needed left footed central defender and Lescott fits the bill. Hughes problem was that he couldn't get anything out of him. It seemed like he just threw lescott in the line up without further instructions. Lescott is exactly the kind of player I feel Mancini will get the best out by giving him strict instructions just like Moyes did.

Santa Cruz buy was the one that went completely overboard.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I thought Lescott was/is our best defender & was being singled out for unfair treatment as most players are by City fans at some point in their career. Toure is the one who's made most mistakes followed by the fullbacks. Lescott was hitting top form before he got injured.

I agree Ted - this time next year I think that Lescott will be our 1st choice defender and in the England team - but as NDQP said - some instruction rather than just being lobbed in will be helpful

Lescott was starting to come good and I rate him as a defender - I am pleased we got him, money doesnt matter to us now so lets not get hung up on that

I alos agree with this.

ONe day we are reading that Moyes wants to send him back to us, then a few days later they supend him for going home and we see Moyes on TV saying that Jo left them at a busy time of the season... whilst ignoring that the player is injred anyway!

I have also been a bit surprised at the level of vitriol aimed at the player in this thread. What has he done to deserve this?
