Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I honestly disagree with some of the people who say mario didn't try, lazy... etc,

he was a marked man in this league, referees never gave him any decisions, opponents always had sly digs at him, he didnt score enough no, but this season his general on the ball play and movement off it was spot on in my eyes.

Ask Jamie Redknapp his opinion of Mario, if it agrees with yours, then you can see what type of company you're in.

You will find that the media always hyped him as a player. I recall few instances where he made the newspapers either for his footballing prowess, or where the media ran down his abilities of a footballer. I dont feel made up stories of him dispensing elizabeths at a petrol station to have anything to do with football - that is mario the caricature, not mario the footballer.

So what media brainwashing do you refer to?

And frankly I dont give a shite what Jamie Redknapp thinks, I thought he was one of the laziest, most workshy, diving, posturing, useless cunt ever to have put on a city shirt on the vast majority of occasions he was called upon. Thats not media brainwashing pal, thats sitting there watching him frown, dive and generally not contribute through most of his city career

The post i made was actually speculating how much the manager had to do with those performances. Eg, cutting the lad some slack.

Considering the role Bob played Mario in (usually wide left rather than centrally), his lack of assists was unforgivable. You will probably come back with THAT assist from last season and with very good reason, it was just about his only assist of the season. My opinions on Mario are based on personal observation not some worthless 25 pence publication I wouldn't wipe my arse with.

Seems a bit of an over-reaction to say that about player who was the MotM for our 1st trophy win in decades, lead the charge to beating the rags 1-6 at the swamp, and lead our team in goals/minute in the season we won the league. Sure, you'll say that you were only talking about the vast majority of times he played for us and the previous achievements are the "rare occasion that he decided to pull his finger out of his arse."

Actually, more it's than an over-reaction. It's just plain dumb and clear that you ignore the facts just to make a case against a player you don't like.

i'm getting confused between threads now - so are we saying we should have sent mancini to milan, signed benteke and made balotelli manager?

He wasn't the best striker we had. Whether the rest is true or not, that simply isn't. I couldn't ever see him getting close to the 30 goal season Aguero had last year. And if he was a marked man, then most of that was by his own design - you build the kind of reputation he had and you pay the price. No one's fault other than his own.

Pick out the odd game all you want chief, (and we have done that one to death earlier in the thread haven't we) the overwhelming impression balotelli left amongst the vast majority of city fans capable of independent thought, was that he was a preening lazy cunt.

I didnt like him because of what I saw with my own eyes week after week, my opinion of him is based on that and that alone and for you or anyone else to suggest that his week in week out approach to football at city was a media myth, is just trying to change history.

Like i said, although you selectively chose not to quote it, there is a strong possibility that he was not solely responsible for the way he performed whilst at city.

Today is as good a time as any to resurrect this thread.

Both players current teams faced each other in an FA Cup semi final more than two years on from when this thread was started.

Benteke played from the start and scored (his 10th goal in 7 games) as his team were victorious.

Balotelli started on the bench and was unable to make a mark on the game having come on for the second half as his faltering Liverpool career continues.

Which player would you rather have in your team?

I'll revert to my comments above from 2013

Balotelli is fucking shit, shit attitude, shit application, huge talent, no end product 95% of the time he steps on the pitch

Benteke has had a poor season up until lambert was sacked hasn't he? Either way, I'd rather have him in the team than Balotelli, no doubt about it. Saw a bit of the game today and he looked a real handful

Apart from scoring a wrongly disallowed equalizer, of course.

playing devil's advocate, wasn't he recovering from an ACL tear for the beginning of this season? (or was that end of last season?)

I don't profess to know the full story but yes i think he was recovering from injury, but lambert wasn't playing him even when fit. Looks like the change of manager came at the right time for him as he's definitely responded, and if it was an acl im pleased for him that he seems to have recovered well

If we are going to play with one striker then balo all day.

Balo was puzzling but some of his runs and approach to the game were not of this world. Problem was with no one was on his same wavelength he got his head down and then lashed out or quit trying.

Wish he'd had someone like navas and Silva together with him to see what he might have done.

Regardless Balo needs to play at the front of an attacking three I believe. Not out fucking wide like some cunt.

Cheers
