Yellow cards

Postby gillie » Fri May 01, 2015 7:47 am

I know they cannot be appealed but I think the league should be able to remove them from a players record when a blatant error has been made.Example I will give is the yellow Aguero got at Southampton when Mike Jones booked him for diving when he was quite clearly fouled for what should have been a penalty.Jones got the decision so wrong it harboured being totally dishonest. So what's everyone's thought on this issue?

Agree. It also irritates me when it costs me points in the fantasy league!

Agree but who would police it? If the FA do it then they'll be seen to be undermining PGMOL and if PGMOL do it themselves they'll be admitting their members incompetence. Can't see it happening.

you kind of answered your own question. The PGMOL have to submit their report to the FA, they can put an exception att he end of the report stating upon reviewing the footage, the yellow card has been rescinded due to the club raising an official complaint.

I agree 100% for decisions like the one you mention

However, there are what, 6/7 yellow cards per game and possibly another 2/3 that could have been given but aren't per game? Do these all have to be looked at. What one manager or pundit or player might say is fair game, but another will disagree. Who decides and which teams will it favour? It has never been and will never be, a level playing field.

Referees will sometimes make errors, big ones. Sometimes it is just hard shit and you just have to brush it aside and deal with it because if you don't it can just fester which doesn't do anyone at the club any favours.

Would like to see things change but I just can't see it. Win some lose some etc

The problem would be the sheer number of yellow cards that are given & the motives of people who try to get them overturned. It would have to be only for a real gross mistake, & perhaps a severe punishment for people who try it on; turn it into a red perhaps.

Agreed, but with a perhaps less severe punishment - frivolous appeals should receive an additional 'hypothetical yellow card', which would bring the player closer to a one-match ban. Repeat frivolous appeals by a club would see the number of hypothetical cards increased.

After this season that would leave a major shortage.

I'd like to see the refs be told to review their cards at seasons end. I don't want them removed, but the sheer number of silly yellows they give needs looking at, as does the extreme challenges that draw the same punishment. I think a proper look at their cards would see a 15-20% reduction in yellows and about 10% increase in reds.

Gut feeling only.
Tracking back is overrated.
