I thought the Friday night games will be introduced for 2016/17 season, not yet for next season?

Can't get my head round the apathy to the Europa. It's been fucked about no end by uefa no doubt, but it's a European fucking trophy. If we were in it at any point, I would want us to go hell for leather for it. We've won 1 euro pot in history, most clubs never, yet whenever one of us all ends up in it we turn our noses up.

That's pretty much my view too. Plus you can drive/keep your coefficient up ( Oooh err missus) and I have to say I loved the places we went in the Europa more than the CL 'experience'.

That's fine if you're a club that either won't fear relegation or isn't pushing for a CL spot.

Meaning no one fucking wants it....it basically just proves what a tough league the Prem is. No reason a beleaguered squad that was 7th last season couldn't be in the shit over Xmas and find themselves stretched thin, etc.

The league is too unforgiving unlike other European leagues.

It shouldn't harm a squad like ours which is supposedly geared up for European football.
Certainly hasn't done A Madrid or Sevilla any harm.

But it's not us we're talking about.

We're talking about west ham, Everton, swans, spurs.

It'll harm all of them perhaps save spurs tho I don't think they're immune either.

Sorry I had wandered into the territory of wanting us to take it seriously if we found ourselves in that situation.
But it is a sad state of affairs when clubs feel it not worth the mither.
It's probably too bloated. Too many games for a limited squad.

Of course the credibility of the competition was blown away when they decided to use it as a television safety net for any bigger club that does fuck up and throw away all the advantages the Champions League system affords them.

So Juergen turns a shocking season start around and gets Borussia into the Europa League and BL Pokal Final . He's a bit Micheal Jackson at his best, but his English is better than the English press, so he would be great at pre and post match interviews.

They might accept they aren't top four but their management and ownership won't after sniffing the pantleg of it for a decade.

Wrt saints fans....I agree again but their management prollee remembers a time not in the top flight in recent past, so....and they were widely tippped to go down following the departures.

Five if Arsenal get 3rd sorted.

ha ha ha, I had not even contemplated that Bro. Nice!

How do you two figure that?

We will have four teams in Europa League this season and not five. Two confirmed spots would be 5th and 6th ranked teams and third team would be whoever tops the fair play table (who would go into first round so would play as early as July 2nd I think). The fourth and last team would be Aston Villa if they win the FA cup or if they lose it then that spot would go to 7th position in the league, so yeah spurs fans might be cheering on for arsenal if they want Europa next season.

England has two domestic competitions, the FA cup and the League Cup and has negotiated a spot for the winner of each with UEFA for Europa league. Up intill last season our criteria was 5th position in league would get Europa and the winners of league cup and FA cup. If the winner of FA cup is already in the top 5 in the league then the spot would go to the FA cup runners up. As for league Cupid winner is already in top 5, then their spot goes to 6th in the league and not the runners up (that cup being considers smaller than FA cup).

This year on however UEFA changed the rules and won't allow any runner ups form any cups so for anyone to get in via the cup they have to win it, else that spot goes to the next position in the league. So if it was last year Villa would already have qualified for Europa as they would be runner up of they make but not from this year on.

Hope it clarifies all the UEFA and FA rule change from this year on. To put it simply we would have three Europa league spots 5th gets it first and the two cup winners. If those two cup winners are already in the top 5, then it goes to 6th and 7th places. The fiar play table one remains on old rule, top three federations across Europe get one spot each and that goes to their domestic fair play table toppers.

If the rags fail in their qualifier, they go to the Europa league group stage.

I thought if you failed in the qualifier you were out of Europe completely? What a joyous day that would be

Group stage
(48 teams)
10 non-qualifiers from Champions League play-off round
Title holder
Cup winner in countries ranked 1 to 6
31 winners from play-off round

Of course, not explaining this in the first place allowed us to get a lesson in what I like to call "Things I already knew" from AG7. I did in particular enjoy the part where he explained the FA Cup runner up status, then stated that it now went to the 7th placed league team, thus giving us an entire paragraph that did not in any way change the number of teams we would enter into the competition.

Personally I think he is Ted's apprentice, he certainly needs some training though like making actual points.

Nope. Losers from the Third Qualifying and Playoff Rounds parachute into the Europa League.

Stand corrected. You live and learn. Remember when Everton got fourth and got beat by Villareal they didn't go into Europa/UEFA cup. Rules must have altered I guess.

Rags on Thursday nights is still something to wish for though

If the Scum were to ever be consigned to the Europa, just imagine the increased media attention which would then be concentrated on that competition.

It would be suddenly transfigured overnight to one that would be perceived somehow as a qualitative rival to the Champions League, especially if the Swampdwellers were to make some progress in it.

It would be great to see Butthead's gang getting their shins kicked in, on a bone-hard pitch in somewhere like Moldova and listening to the all the 'experts' trying to find solace in their long-ball tactics against a team of no-hopers.

Yes they did. They got knocked out by Dinamo Bucharest.
