+1 .... in a nutshell.

+2

I hope City play a long game with them, push the figure to close the £50m mark which means they will go and negotiate players to bring into their squad at inflated prices because of the Sterling money (see Suarez Transfer kitty) and then we pull out and leave them high and dry. Then release a statement saying they were just a decoy whilst we wrapped up the rest of our business.

I dont want sterling, I think he is very over-rated. Even the scousers think he is shit if you read their forums

They were saying he was better than Silva this time last year mate.

One positive is that our early bid has also just driven up prices for all other interested parties, even if we don't want him that bad (which I don't either)

woke up to that we have bid for sterling, i'm glad it was rejected, I nearly shit the bed.

If he was great or potentially world class, he would have performed last season even if his head was elsewhere, to prove to potential buyers he was worth buying. Instead, he was mediocre overrated shite.
Still here.

Pay them the money he was gonna win us the world cup last year acc to the press, he is just what we need pace goals and can beat a player what does the cost matter to us.

I think the offer, if true, was fair taking into account his age, contract and what he has done so far. I think 30mil is absolute tops and we could get better abroad for less. Why give scouse more money? if he does leave for a club in England its either us or chelsea, and chelsea dont really need him. Let him go abroad and struggle to adapt, even though the list of clubs who would pay more than that is limited as well.

In order for that statement to be true, you must be basing it on previous examples of such players performing under similar circumstances.

Can you give an example of a 20 year old player who has excelled playing out of position when the star striker has been sold & the 2nd best striker is injured ?

I wonder what people thought of Coutinho's season ? I thought he was supposed to have been very good ?

As Sterling, having a shitter, was better than Countinho on just about every single statistic available in every department.

I don't think clubs abroad are as daft as us when it comes to English players, they see right through the hype.

Sterling is the best of a bad England youth crop, lets not kid ourselves. Only us brits will pay crazy money for our own (average to good) players.

Not a world class English talent out there right now, Sterling is the best youngster we have.... it's actually very depressing....

I do believe Sterling has world class potential.
He certainly has attributes that none of our players posses, such as skill and pace combined. It is a risk for sure, but if it is between 30-35m, I'll be happy with that. He would thrive in our team and free up so much space for the likes of Aguero and Silva... and even Toure.

He is Liverpool's best player and he's 20. Even though the dippers are on the slide, that is no mean feat.

If he joins us, he will need to control those flappy arms when he is running with the ball.

I am curious, how will we settle him in our system?

From what i saw, he always played as a winger there, but here, we have a bit different type of winger, that will attack, but will help with the defence.

Plus, will he agree with the rotation system that we have? He is a huge gamble, not because of his talent, but because how he is outside the field. I would focus on Isco.

absolutely, he is very similar to Navas, we dont need another Navas, we need a Hazard

Navas is getting on in years though and apart from Navas we have very little outright pace in the squad, so I can see a fit for Sterling in our team, short and long term.

Wish he was a more complete player like Hazard but there aren't many like him out there, Sterling probably is the best of his ilk (pacy winger) we can get right now.

I wouldn't put Sterling in the same bracket as Hazard but his playing style is a lot more similar to Hazard's than it is Navas'. He has a lot more trickery than Navas has.

I agree with this completely.

Navas has pace. He is nowhere near as skillful on the ball as Sterling.

I must be watching a completely different Raheem Sterling than you guys as the one I see is more often than not a clueless headless chicken (albeit a very fast one). He can dribble alright, often into trouble and loses possession.

thought he was very very good in the 13/14 season, maybe not as good last season, but he has it in there, can see him kicking on with proper talent around him rather than being surrounded by history...

That could describe navas.
