Had his faults but made the best of the talent and physique he had. Paul Dickov was a shit player, but he gave his best for the shirt and you won't see many criticising him for running round looking angry, so I think the Dunne criticism is all a bit harsh.

The bloke without whom we would never have been in this position, key to getting us out of the 3rd division; just 'runs around & looks angry' whilst a bloke who was directly involved in us losing quite a few of our best opportunities of winning a trophy by either getting sent off, or falling apart, is a legend. Basically for being a mid table player in a comfort zone for most of his career.

And when he eventually gets his big chance in a cup final for Villa ? Richard Dunne lost possession to Dimitar Berbatov, and when he attempted to repair his error he could only find Owen, who slipped a perfect finish past Villa keeper Brad Friedel. Same Berbatov against whom Dunne bottled it vs Spurs when they knocked us out of the cup. But who can forget his dominating performances v Robbie Keane, every year ?

I seem to remember Dickov coming back to City for Leicester & tearing our cbs a new arsehole as we disappointed yet again in a game we expected to win.

Dickov IS a legend, for actually achieving stuff which was above the norm, & making a positive difference to our history.

If Dunne had never been at the club, there would be no difference.

On top of that the comparison between he and Barton on the pitch is fine, but Barton is a fuck up of the highest order and blew any chance he had of fond memories from most. Dunne was 4 time poty, and left with most of that respect in tact.

The Dickov comparison is not exactly accurate either, the goal is of huge importance and I'm not knocking him, one goal does not beat out years of solid service in my opinion. In the premier league most would agree dunne was a better player for city than dickov I'm pretty certain.

I would say Dunne has every bit of Respect in tact, I have never seen him do a Distin and try and take the piss, same as Dickov did when playing for Leicester. I have great memories of Dunney, he was a shining light in a shit team.

The defence at that time had 10 players in it, & our big attacking threat was Joey Barton.

Not the stuff of legends imo.

Dunne's best season, tbf to him, was when we were actually playing well & he did genuinely have a real quality season & was a worthy poty imo. But the rest of the time, imo, he was mostly average to piss poor, with the occasional gritty display when we were under no pressure to win, & he enjoyed the comfort zone of mediocrity, along with quite a few.

He is a loser imo & has continued that theme since he left. City had become a club for losers at that time & he was the perfect example.

the 2010 PFA team of the year had Hart, Dunne and Milner all in the side!! Non of them were playing for City though ha ha ha
