Its interesting that our focus this window has been on our attacking areas, rather than holding mid and defense, which is where we were lacking last season.

We were badly lacking in attack last season, defensively we were no worse than the season before.

We scored the most goals again and were ahead of Chelsea by 10 goals.
Its never a bad thing to stockpile players who can score but maybe we should ge looking at left back or somewhere defensive

Don't disagree about left back but it's not in urgent need of addressing. 10 goals ahead of Chelsea isn't good enough for a side that plays with an emphasis on attack. If we're going to leave ourselves so exposed we've got to make it count at the other end.

Exactly what I said, the big difference last year wasn't goals conceded at all. It was the fact that without scoring 3-4 the one we conceded was a winner not a consolation.
Tracking back is overrated.

Absolutely.

My motto always is that it's forwards that win matches and the more forwards we have, the merrier I'll be.

If we score 100 goals (again) in the forthcoming season, we'll win the League by a mile.

I think that's the Count's philisophy whether we like it or not. The defence didn't play very well but neither did the rest of the team do a good job helping the defence & also killing teams off when on top.

Even with the likes of Kolarov at lb plus Vinny & Zaba havi g shit seasons, if somebody wanted to turn us into a functional team I'm pretty sure they could.

The owner wants Real Madrid/ Barca, not Chelsea, & that's what the Count is trying to build.

Sort of true, via the eyeball test, but we did not score anywhere near as many goals as we did the season before, and conceded around the same. Pellegrini's philosophy is to "score more than your opponent." He worries about defence less if you put the fear of God into opponents minds, and in season one it worked.

Yet, we do need additional help there, and would be nice to get another central midfielder who can defend and create, if possible.

Are we no longer looking at Song? Martinez already came out saying he does not want to sell McCarthy (duh), and would he want to come to us and for how much?

If we don't get Pogba I am sure we would not mind coughing up the fee.

I would like us to steer clear of Song. We have enough midfielders who cannot be relied upon defensively and his West Ham stint was anything but impressive.

Re McCarthy, of course Martinez will say that. Although they are not offering him a wage hike either and have brought in Cleverley on 50k/week. If we're serious, they are going to drag it out regardless to look like the moral winners in the end. Seems to be a scouse thing.
