Says who?

Seems to be the general consensus. I heard it several times on talkshite because I've been driving. I know they talk rubbish, but they were quoting sources.

The gathering consensus on the event is that Delph was promised that Villa would keep their best talent and reinforce it to move forward with gusto next season. The reality was that they reneged on their promise and sold Benteke in the blink of an eye . . .
Thus, Delph was disgusted that Lerner and his cronies had lied to him and are selling the furniture and ripping out the copper as they look to squeeze as much cash out of the club before they sell it.
Delph walked away from the liars and signed for City on the terms originally agreed.

Villa fans are going honkers at Delph but when they sober up they'll realise that their club is being run into the ground by the owners and that's not Delph's fault.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

The benteke buyout clause was met - I seriously doubt that was the reason he decided to leave.

The way I understand it, we have to shift some overseas players before we bring in any more. As the maximum is 17.

Maybe Delph changed his mind because loads of people explained to him what a berk he'd been to pass up that opportunity. Loved Paul Lambert being shown up for the prick he is .

I heard somewhere that the proposed sale of Villa fell through in the week. Not sure where, probably bluemoon. Don't know if there's any truth in it, or whether that would have any bearing on the U turn.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lambert's intervention was the cause of his re-think.

I understand that our PR guys are trying to salvage this nightmare, but imagine what the Villa fans must think of one of their players now? Poor shmucks have been had by Delph and now by Richards (allegedly) on top of it! Sometimes less is more.

Villa has lost Given, Vlaar, Zidane and Benteke since May. If I was Delph, I'd have been wondering why I'd just turned down a CL club as well.

This.

You can only see Villa going down this season, why on earth turn a champions league team and the prospect of trophies down, to stay in that dogfight. You'd have to be bonkers.
