CORRECT!!! Can I just ask people who would see this as a good deal, 'How old is he, when was the last time he played a competitive game, how many games as he played this year and how would he make an immediate impact on our team?'.

Absolute ridiculous signing if it happens and would be taking us back to the Fowler/McManaman days. Are we not aspiring to lead the pack, not back it up?

Hmmmm, I'm thinking Mancini is looking for his "Mancini" as Sven did at Lazio...

And very understandable mate and I don't have a real problem with a player like Vieira at his age. What I would have a problem with is any player of his age who has not played a competitve game in months and only a handful in the space of a year. Although he is a professional (and I mean of the heighest order imo), it takes a while for any player to get up to steam, to fit into the system and get to know the players and crowds around him. If he is short term, then it will take him that time to fit in. If he is long term, it's another year on his numbered years in a very demanding role.

Now, if he's looking at some sort of coaching role and a mentor for the up and coming, then yes, but as a player, definately not imo.

WTF are you waffling about now Beefy...it's a fucking loan deal...not like we are signing him up for a long time...six months max...and Bobby knows what he needs and how to go about it...if he thinks Patrick can do a job...then who are we to argue the toss

Another fair point (apart from the 'WTf' and 'Waffling'), and when he's up to speed after the 6 months, he can put his feet up again! This isn't about Vieira, this is about players in his position and what they would bring to the field. And what's good to see is that Mancio has not yet signed your best of friends Patrick and it is all paper talk. He is a Legend of the game and one of my all-time favourite players, but as they say, Legends are in the past, where I'd like my memories of Vieira to stay.

The Mail is now reporting the deal to be 99% done and that he'll be a city player by the start of next week.

The deal being a 6 month loan with the option to buy if he's a success.

I think it's a smart move tbh, well done bobby manc if true.

There's absolutely not a chance in hell he could do what he used to do in the PL as he'd already lost the ability to do that before he left Arsenal. Anchored at the back of the midfield though in the old Didi Hamann spot I can imagine it being a different story & also helping Mancini get his more defensive style across to players who have become used to charging forward at every opportunity leaving spaces behind which have sometimes been exploited.

Quite often agree with you mate, but he WAS a world class central midfielder a few years ago, now- no where near good enough imo.

What the heck. Its only 6 months hes got to put a shift in for.I trust the gaffer on this one.I dont think he will be used as a 90min player but more as coming on in the last 30mins if we get an injury or a tactical re-shuffle.Im sure his reputation as a player alone would give alot of fear factor and respect from the opposition.

just to make everyone feel better...we're being linked with Veron as well now. Like Mancini said in yesterdays presser we're being linked to anyone and everyone.

Here's a link from NewsNow in Spanish:

http://www.diariohoy.net/accion-verNota ... s_por_Vern

To be fair, and CARL may follow more South American footy than many of us when he's not pulling threesomes, Veron has NOT been shit in the Argentinian league. Anyone watch him this summer in the Copa Libertadores? i thought they were fun matches and he looked reasonably good tbh. Is that Premiership good? Well...he's in Argentina for a reason, isn't he?

Also: Real Ronaldo anytime soon? I'm waiting for that one...

cheers

I think that's it, isn't it. I wouldn't question Mancini's judgment. He hasn't put a wrong foot in yet. Vierra is a different type of DM
compared to NDJ and Komp. He can pass better and likes to go forward and used to score regularly for the Arse. As for his age, well
Hamman was 35 when he played his last full season for us and he did quaite a good job from what I can remember !

I don't see this coming to fruition. We have at least 5 players that can fill this role. It's just not a priority.

Mancini must love him after the successes they enjoyed tohether.
33: that's how old Ali and Eyal were and they gave us good (if short) sevice.
I can't think of any reason we wouldn't want a guy of this quality in the squad

It's 99% certain according to just about everyone in the media here, France & Italy. The only thing that would scupper it is if someone else can persuade him to go there instead but it's probably too late for that now.

We are the most attractive club to join on the planet right now, if he's got an offer on the table from us i'd expect he'll snap our hand off.

Italian media Tuttomercato seems to be getting it from the Times, so I'm not sure about this one. Amazing how a lazy English rumour can flash round Europe.

Not sure it's a player we need, but if Bobby Manc WERE to think it worthwhile, who am I to say no?

On BBC site:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/8441258.stm

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to sign Patrick Vieira and the Inter Milan midfielder is interested in making the move, BBC Sport understands.

Vieira, 33, is believed to be intrigued by the possibility of returning to England, where he has not played since leaving Arsenal for Juventus in 2005.

The France captain is out of favour at Inter and wants first-team football.

Other clubs are interested but Vieira sees linking up with his old Inter boss Mancini as his best option.

Vieira moved to the San Siro following a single season at Juve and won two Serie A titles at Inter under Mancini in 2007 and 2008.

If Vieira comes and doesn't do a job he will be on the bench or in the reserves. If he does a job it's a good signing

lee1pen
He had similar success during his time at Arsenal, spending nine years in north London after Arsene Wenger made him his first signing as Gunners boss in 1996.

Vieira made more than 400 appearances for the Gunners, winning three league titles and four FA Cups.

His last game in English football was the 2005 FA Cup final, in which he scored the winning penalty for Arsenal to beat Manchester United.

Wenger, who was linked with re-signing Vieira at the start of the season, feels he will still be a force in the Premier League if he does switch to Eastlands and understands his motives for a move.

"Patrick needs to play," explained the Gunners boss. "I was surprised about Manchester City's interest because there were more talks about other clubs but it would be a good opportunity for him.

"I believe he would still be very effective in the Premier League because he has been injury free for three or four months now and that is what he needed."
