Puts it into perspective about us "ruining football"

Our owner has put in £395 million, and we have a tasty looking squad. He has another £300m to spend go before we get to the stage where he has spent equal to the cost of U***d's debt. Add another few hundred million to cover the cost of buying the club, and why would anyone want to invest upwards of £1bn to make the club debt free and get a return on investment of perhaps 1/2%.

U***d's dominance of the game is currently built on a foundation of debt, and its now coming back to bite them on the arse. Whilst everyone talks about what happens if the sheik fucks off, the owner cant fuck off, because nobody else will be able to take on the liabilities of the playing staff's contracts, hence nobody will buy the club as it is unviable, so he has to stay here for the long haul. Same with Abramovich and Chelsea.

Perhaps it is becoming clearer report by report that the reason we are ruining football is because the "old order" monopoly in England and also in Europe will change, and the losers will be the established clubs who are based on debt.

Its hard for even the most blinkered of U***d fan to argue that against the FACT that slowly declining investment in the playing staff over the last 3 years is eating away at the quality of the squad, and as Giggs, Scholes etc draw towards the end of their career, the decline in the quality of the playing staff is happening at an increasing pace.

All looks a bit gloomy for the rags fortunately.

I agree with your explanation too.

What is particularly worrying is that the Glazers were simply allowed to manipulate the debt from some private investor , onto the club. The Glazers thought they new the finance markets better and gambled on interest rates staying low and borrowed heavily to gain ownership. The naive , or unlucky shareholder forced to sell his shares because one or two major shareholders madoff , sorry made off with outrageous profits on their sales, were then force to cough up extra as season tickets costs start spiralling upwards.

City's owner took money from his back pocket. Sure, he could insist that the 'soft loans' he made be paid back at 33% etc, but what would that gain him ? he'd break his own company !

The Glazers borrowed money, money they never had and are now paying for it. Or customers for all products United are now paying their interest rates for them. It is a shocking example of how big company financing works to the disadvantage of the average punter. This is no different from other Mergers and Aquisitions that take place. The exorbitant fees demand by banks etc for managing a 'takeover' are quite out of hand and often reflect very little on the true effort they put in ( ie fees should be smaller ! ).
Invariably the customer pays for such takeovers. If not in the short term , certainly in the medium and long term.
This takeover brought NO improvements in the running of United through synergies with other companies the Glazers have title to ( i won't say 'own', because it's difficult to know how high the Glazers are leveraged on other businesses).

The companies that managed the Aquisition of United for the Glazers, should also take a good look at the debt mountain they eventually signed off for the club. A failure to be successful, a drop in attendances, will soon bite into those shirt sales all around the world.

Whereas, everywhere you look, even on Arsenal, Chelsea and United's fancy billboards around the pitch , the word 'ETIHAD'
keeps popping up ! How nice for City and our owner.

The financial points and comments raised in this thread by ant and zuric are all very valid, but at the end of the day the average Football fan is interested in trophies and not financial performance.

Even the football media will skim over all this financial stuff and still insist that Manyoo are still well in contention for major honours THIS YEAR and the foreseeable short term future.

The question that 'Joe Public' will ask is :

So, when will United start losing and City start winning Premiership Titles and Champs Leagues then???!!!

Really, unless you are an investor in either club ...... that is all that matters.

This is the thing. If anyone wants to take on a club, imo they would look to take on the likes of Spuds, Villa, Newcastle, someone of that ilk, and build them up so that they can genuinely claim that the resultant prestige in the years to come are a product of their own investment.

Would you rather pay £100m for Newcastle, clear their debts for say another £100m and spunk £500m on your fantasy team, I know I would - its a blank canvass and you can make it into whatever you want.Fucking mental to me that nobody has taken Newcastle on for a "project"

Part of the joy of not being a Scum fan is that we can all see that their days are numbered.
Whether that's because Taggart will one day keel over, or because the debt will cripple them, or we will buy our way past them is irrelevent. In that respect you're right.
We'll know it when we see it, because it will be on the park and in the cabinet.
However, the REAL pleasure comes from knowing that Scum fans will also see it coming.
They are used to snatching the best players from others' squads: Ferdinand, Rooney, Carrick, Cantona, Sheringham, Kanchelskis, "the Guvnor".
They are used to being able to acquire "the best player/prospect in the world in that position": Ronaldo, Schmeichel, Horseface...
They are used to being able to be a bit (!) wasteful and get away with it: Veron, the Djemba twins, Barthez, Kleberson, Taibi
They are used to keepiing players until THEY want rid, rather than getting transfer requests

The money situation means that ALL that will change (has changed) and that coupled with taggart's age are the two best things about the Scum at the moment. The flip side (and why the money thing is important NOW) is that at some point they may find someone with very big balls and pockets prepared to buy the Glazers out, so we'd better make hay.

Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

I don't expect the average punter to understand the financials of the club.

However, we have experienced recently on here the effect of the Glazers takeover concept....

Where you say ?

Quite easy, the reluctance of united to show any hedgeway in dropping, or making ticket prices reasonable for the Semi finals.... Thereby forcing city supporters to cough up big money for tickets at OT and COMS at a particularly difficult period when games are coming thick and fast just after Christmas.

So that's where it directly hits the average fan on a day to day basis. Very high fixed costs of running the club determine their ticket prices even for games that are so-called 'bonus' games .

As soon as U****d, Liverpool and to some extent Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League we are going to see fireworks. They will have no choice but to sell some of their players, screw the fans even more and their respective owners will be desperate to sell up.

With the situation at U****d, if it does all go belly up I expect that the Glazers will have no part of liabilities, i.e. the swamp is secured against the majority of the debt so would be taken by the administrators and potentially sold off to repay the creditors?

But 76000 still turned up to watch what they knew would be mainly their reserves take on Leeds in the early rounds of a Cup. OK, even if most of these were Tourists and not fans as we like to believe we are ..... they still payed big bucks for tickets and turned up.

This situation will only start reversing itself when we start winning trophies and they don't. Not because of the financials.

The facts are that a clubs financial situation is reported witin a small paragraph on the inside pages of newspapers. Parading trophies around the worlds best stadiums is what makes real headline news.

Hopefully, WHEN we start to turn our cash into trophies won (at their expense), the transformation will be complete ..... but until that happens we really do still have little to crow about at this moment.

This should do the trick to sort United out if their credit rating bombs

http://www.quickquid.co.uk/fee-schedule.html

Tier................Loan Amount...Finance Charge....Total Amount to be Paid to QuickQuid..APR
Excellent...........£50.00..........£10.00..............£60.00......................................819.12%
Good...............£50.00...........£12.50..............£62.50.....................................1410.33%
Average...........£50.00...........£14.75..............£64.75......................................2222.46%

How the fuck is this legal?

all true Mark, however, our financial muscle will allow us to compete with them on a level playing field for the top players around. We all know Money talks and we are in a position to knock them out of the park. It speaks volumes that they have stated they are not going to buy anyone in the window, despite the fact that they are in deep shit with injuries and having to hype up their crap kids before they play them.
