Driver dead, 4 others injured. Sounds like the original TalkSport report might be right, 2 players & 2 coaching staff. Makes sense thinking about who'd be sat at the front

stupid tournament in a largely fucked up continent, sadly. fifa are arseholes for allowing this tournament every 2 years. stupid way to develop african football; why sign african players when you lose them for 5 weeks or more every 2 years?

horrible attack. angola. 1 of the 6 most dangerous places on earth.

Wonder why they were in such a dangerous area where they could be ambushed like that.

I'm pretty sure clubs don't have any right of recall but I hope Togo withdraw and I reckon the whole thing should just be called off.

If a player has been killed it should be called off out of respect

I wouldn't be suprised if they knock the tournament on the head now.

They took the world cup in 86 from colombia because of the ongoing internal violence. God forbid, if another incident happened where a player was killed, FIFA would be in serious shit and face serious law suit

I suppose they regard South Africa as the safe way to give the World Cup to Africa but that is only by comparison to the really dangerous bits. There could be massive repercussions, what odds we get to host the World Cup sooner than expected?

"I'm okay but several players are in a bad state," Togo and Nantes striker Thomas Dossevi told French radio station RMC.

"We are still in hospital. We were machine-gunned like dogs and had to remain hidden under our seats for around 20 minutes to avoid the bullets."

He said the wounded included two squad members and two medics

Does not sound good.

Just found this

Dossevi added that the team no longer wanted to play at the cup.

Ade might not play after all.

From M.E.N

Togo are scheduled to begin their cup campaign against Ghana on Monday.

Midfielder Alaixys Romao admits the players feared the worst and thinks Togo are now likely to pull out of the tournament.

“We’re not thinking yet of what could happen,” said the Grenoble player. “But it’s true that no-one wants to play.

“We’re not capable of it.

“We’re thinking first of all about the health of our injured because there was a lot of blood on the ground.

“For the moment there is not much news because they have been taken to different hospitals.

“In cases like these we’re thinking of those near us, of those we love because that really could have been the end of us.”

Adebayor, 25, signed for City last July from Arsenal, and scored six goals at the start of the season for the Blues.

Before he left for the tournament, he was asked if he had reservations about playing in Cabinda, a troubled province of Angola.

He replied: "We were born in Africa so we know what it’s about. Some people might be afraid which is normal, I can understand that. But I’m going back to Africa, to one of the countries on my continent, and I’m prepared for Cabinda. I will enjoy myself."

Adebayor added: "African nations are getting better and better. We can’t be like France, England or America tomorrow. Angola had a big, big war but today everybody is getting along better. They have good organisation and we hope everyone will enjoy it and come back safely."

His City team-mate Kolo Toure, who is also in the country playing for Ivory Coast, added: "We’re not scared. We know that the security will be there."
