Talking (Klopp's) tactics

Postby Moonchesteri » Sat Dec 26, 2015 12:25 pm

An interesting article which discusses has Klopp already been found out in Prem and also a mention why Mangler and Otter aren't a good fit together.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/how-jurgen-klopp-and-his-pressing-liverpool-have-been-found-out-in-just-two-months-danny-a6785411.html

Obviously too early to say Klopp has been found out as he hasn't even had time to build his squad but interesting nonetheless. From what I've understood his team has more or less had one playing style only so far. Maybe our very own Dortmund fan has more insight tho?

Interesting bit on Manga/Ota, good to see he's actually put some thought into his analysis rather than the usual crap you hear/read that they're a waste of money, wouldn't get in a pub team, blah, blah etc.

For me Manga should be the front foot defender as his pace can bail him out if he misses a tackle.

Otamendi suits the sweeper role more as he's better on the ball than Manga and as we've seen he can be brushed aside quite easily in a physical battle so let Manga do battle and Ota sweep up behind.

It's pretty irrelevant for now I guess, at least it is until Vinnie gets crocked again.

Sinclair said that about how to beat Liverpool a few weeks ago - let them push up you then go over the top and they're in trouble.

As for Mangala and Otamendi, Kompany also likes to play on the front foot, so it sounds like no two of the three will work together. I know we had the five clean sheets at the start of the season, but it always felt like we were riding our luck in those games. It worked somehow and maybe would have grown into a decent partnership, but I suspect we'll never find out.

I don't think it's his tactics that have been found out - it's just the new manager honeymoon period that's over. When that sparkly newness gives way to routine and familiarity, in creeps the 'contempt' (to bastardise the phrase). Underneath it all, he has a shit squad to work with.

It's funny that pressing as it's something I've been pondering myself for the team k have next season. I had a training game last month and instructed the front 4 to press as high up as they could and we got killed on the counter as j didn't have either of my defensive mids there. It's an interesting read, pressing seems to be one of those things that's constantly debated and re tried ever few years, but not many sides do it well consistently really.
Tracking back is overrated.

It needs the whole team to be 'on it' to make it work, if you have a weak link (or in our case Yaya) then the house of cards can come tumbling down.

This Klopp fella seems very much a raving lunatic to me.

It will all end in tears.

He's blaming Mariah now for his team not understanding his tactics.

Yep, they think they god a world class manager in him and to be fair he did do wonders with Dortmund but I think he could fail horribly with them.
