Toffee Talk - Round One

The View from The Home End

I wasn't sure if I was going to post anything for this game, but I am curious to see how scouse2 (or scouse1, depending on your point of view) fans change their point of view over three games - if they do at all. I am really not impressed by their comments. I sense a lot of of sour grapes coming from the land of the dippers.

I haven't seen any mention of the New Years Honours list here, or the fact that Francis Lee was awarded a CBE. This picture is Francis Lee scoring one of two goals which helped us beat Everton 3-2 in November 1972

Now….COME ON CITY

Team Selection

Robles
 Coleman Jagielka Stones Baines
Barry Besic Cleverly
Deulofeu Barkley
Lukaku

My favourite

Team in blue to win 3-1. I can't be optimistic enough to say which team.

And the rest…

Man City have won loads of stuff in recent years. I want just one thing for now. 21 years is ridiculous. It's not too far to say this is Roberto Martinez' biggest game since he got here. Let's hope it's an even bigger one next week, and the biggest yet in February.

2-2, we'll be gallant and people will have hope. Sadly we'll bottle the second leg as we've done for the past 20 years.

Not going to lie...I'll be utterly devastated if we don't get a good result here. Think this is our very best chance of actually winning something for a long, long time.

The team that finished the Spurs game should be the starting line-up. The only exception for me is, despite playing well on Sunday, I'd put Jags back in for Mori if he's 100% fit. If we play like we did against Spurs for the last 30 mins, we can win this.

1-1

Come on, Bobby! Prove that u are not a deluded Wigan puppet master...u are the real thing...

A match fit Jagielka would be an asset against City, but it's asking a lot of him to face Aguero in his comeback game. I think it may be better to stick with Mori and play Jagielka against Dagenham. The introduction of Deulofeu and Besic changed the game on Sunday, but I'm still worried about Besic's temperament.

Martinez has to beat city we have to beat city which he's not done under/with us.

I reckon go for it because City can be just as dodgy as us at the back. Also, I reckon they will bench Toure, Aguero (fingers crossed) and maybe a couple more first teasers

We will win this, Barkley hattrick nailed on

I'm quietly confident for this one. Obviously hoping for a win at Goodison but a draw wouldn't be the end of the world, would mean City having to come at us at the Etihad and that plays into our hands for the counter.

besic to man mark De Bruyne if both start.

No chance…Absolutely no chance we will concede less than two here. We can't defend.

On the City forum they are calling us "small time bin dippers" Obviously a very young person not from the Moss Side area?

..I have to say that I'm as interested in their line up as ours. Without Kompany we can get at their 2 CBs but that will be more difficult if they play 2 defensive midfielders as opposed to the normal one. Although Toure is still capable of brilliance he struggles to get around the pitch. With the right selection we can go into the 2nd leg still very much in the tie.

for the first time this season,i'm not confident for the blues, so it hopefully means a 2-0 win.Howard has a stormer and the fan base don't know whether to cheer or cry

If Yaya wakes up we've had it.

As always this is hard to call. Expect them to go all out as they usually do against us. Hope our boys are firing.

Some reasonable comments. Some of these Toffees watch a bit of football.

As an aside, I used to go out with an Evertonian lass when they won the FA cup. She took me to their next home game where the Arse beat them 2-0. We didn't last long after that. Anyway, her brothers used to mock me when we were shit so LFTCU!

Strange team, Everton. Every time I watch them they are dangerous from crosses from the right but they struggle to play through the middle. I'm sure Pellers will have noted this and react accordingly, honest.

Over 90% of teams go all out from the beginning. That's not rocket science. They know we seem to be a great big ocean liner that takes ages to get going but then (usually) become unstoppable in the final ten minutes. And providing we're not too far behind by then things usually turn out fine. (Apart from the ulcers that is!)

Didn't say from the beginning. My point was that Everton along with pool and Arse seem to alway see us as their cup final and tend to raise their game.

As pointed out earlier this normally follows by points dropped against a lesser team the following week.

We need to be preparded for that.

Loved the numbers on the sleeves on that kit. I had an old Shoot annual with Colin Bell wearing it on the front

Who is that just above Franny? Looks like Tony Henry but I know it's not
