Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres (merged)

Postby Blueboylewis » Sun Jan 10, 2010 12:04 pm

What do people think? I have just had a look on the sky sports transfer clockwatch and this quote comes up-

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has admitted that any big-money bid for key duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres would have to be considered by the club.

Would it be worth a bid? And would they join. And if the bid was big enough then Benitez and Liverpool would accept because they need to bring in better players to improve there squad.
or would Gerrard and Torres fancy a move abroad?

Would definately go all out for Torres probably in summer if we make top 4 but would still put a cheeky bid in now to unsettle them, Gerrard is a great player but only has 2 or 3 years left and whether he would raise his game as much for someone other than Dippers is debateable.

I can't see Gerrard leaving for another UK club, the scousers would have him shot!

Probably take at least the same amount of cash as the portuguese waiter to prise Torres from the scousers...worth it though

They can keep Gerrard...can probably get a younger...hungrier combative midfielder for half the price in the summer if we make the CL

I'm not sure whether Gerrard himself would move anymore. He turns 30 in few months and I think he considers retiring as Liverpool player. His chance was that Chelsea that never materialised.

Torres on the other hand would interest very much, although he hasn't exactly praised our takeover in the best saying he'd never play for second rate club like ours, so his destination would probably be Barcelona or Real.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

This didn't his mother get death threats when he nearly joined Chelsea in 2005?.

Torres, yes, but I doubt he'd come. Stevie Me, only if we get a 6-12 month trial first to see if his heart is in it to play for us, a la the Vieira deal.

I can't see Gerrard ever playing for another English team but I'd love him at City. Up there amongst the best attacking midfielders in the world. Torres is a massive yes too but I think he'll stay loyal to Liverpool for a while yet

I think Gerrard would be fantastic for City & we'd win the league with him. Torres is a great player (although I can't stand him) but he looks much more like the kind of player who would stroll around waving his arms about than Gerrard to me.

If Gerrard did sign I think he'd give it everything but I doubt he'd want to move now. Having said that he does look depressed every time I see him on tv.

He always looks depressed mate!

I'd take both just to fuck the scousers off. They'd be finished and like you say we'd win the league.

And I'd get my 1000 quid from my bet. Yee fucking haw.

Big no to Gerrard. Past his peak and Liverpool would want stupid money and Torres im very meh on, this season he's been hot and cold form wise and injury plagued. Could be a blip but again Liverpool would want silly money, so it would be a big gamble.

Still out of the two i'd take Torres.

This question is becoming tedious now.

And without wanting to sound like a dick, I assume people who wouldn't have Gerrard know fuck all about football. One of the greatest midfielders the Prem had ever seen and you wouldn't have him? Fucking madness.

I was thinking this too. People turning their noses up at Stevie Gerrard are you mad. IMO he would walk into our midfield and any other in the prem. Now he is a world class player.

I just get the feeling Gerard wouldnt be half the player he is now, for another club. He is Liverpool. Not at Liverpool, and i think he mentality would change and he wouldnt be a 100% commited.

Torres is hot and cold this season because he desperately needs an operation. But scouse keep rubbing horse placenta on his groin and patching him up instead of actually biting the bullet and getting him sorted out. There season is over now, they wont win the Europa, they wont make 4th while we keep buying and Spurs and villa keep the points coming in.

Imagine Torres and Ade upfront , or Torres Tevez Robinho, it starts getting stupid the quality we could choose from upfront.

I dont understand the Torres situation. They were desperately avoiding an operation by putting it off, but he has the world cup at the end of the year and he has now stated he is doing double training sessions to get him back to where he was? Where has the injury that needs the operation gone? If its the horse placenta, I will have to get myself some of that stuff!
