obviously, no yaya and 2 clean sheets, coincidence?

Only complaints from the team sheet and subs were - fern1 for yaya, de bruyne for sterling (although sterling was bobbins when he came on)

If "it" means his best, then yes, definitely.

If "it" means finished as a player then it's a no.

Despite his allowing the Hammer to breeze past him on the opener he wasn't too bad defensively all told, two great bits of defending from him in the second half prevented clear cut chances against us.

In a different role, impact sub, number 10 even, deep lying playmaker a la Pirlo, then maybe we can get another 18 decent months out of him

That is my view, but I don't think we should be planning another season with him.
We should be getting used to not relying on him, NOW. Get the rest of the season out of him as an impact sub, where he is still capable of doing considerable damage.
But plan for s future without him.

Fuck me. He is still better than most of our midfielders. He is too good to be an impact sun. Jesus, I despair.

He is better than most of our midfielders. I for one don't dispute that on an individual basis. What I do think though is that in a role where he is one of two in midfield he is a square peg in a round hole and it is to the teams detriment to play in that formation. Just my opinion and it differs from many, that's the beauty of football

If there was a better combination of two that made us water tight I could understand this obsession. But we're not. Delph and Fern 1 MIGHT work but anything with Fern 2 instantly makes us weaker.

Then let's see Fern 1 and Delph. I'd go for that. You think we don't see that We don't have a replacement for Yaya?
There is nobody in the squad thst does what he does. Unfortunately he has been as much of a liability to the team as an asset, of late.
I don't think it is laziness, I just think he is not capable twice a week and maybe not for a full ninety minutes.
This is not going to get any better next year.
Start integrating others into the system whatever it may be, now.
It's not all Yaya's fault but we need youthful energy put into our game.
Yes go with Delph and Fern 1. At least give it a try.

How precisely you know, no, you can guarantee these other combinations do not work is a mystery, because nothing else has been tried for more than a few minutes here and there; Yaya plays every match, regardless of form or fitness. Delph and Fernando have hardly played through injury. Fernando played carrying an injury most of last season so again, he can hardly be judged fairly on that either. So how about waiting until he (and Delph) has a run of ten-fifteen matches and see where he is and where we are then? If he came into the team and was fucking brilliant for one game, would that make him the new beckenbauer? Of course it wouldn't. We'd wait and see how things developed.

The two Ferns have played together quite often. And it rarely works.
Too much gets lost from our attacking play. Most sides are lined up to be defensive and organised. We are often going into games with just four attack minded players to break them down, because with the best will in the world neither of Fernandinho or Fernando are likely to open a team up. They are in fact more likely to give the ball away and leave us more vulnerable to the counter attack.
When Sagna and Clichy play at full back it is even more of a problem and we end up so short of attacking ideas.
Delph has surprised me in the limited time we've seen him. He's had more about him in an attacking sense than I expected. He certainly has plenty of energy.
I still believe that against most sides at home there is absolutely no need to play with two hard working but less gifted players.
What Yaya does do incredibly well is
Link the defence with attack, fetching the ball from the back four.
Retains possession and
Finding that moment of genius that will win a game in a moment.

If Delph can remain fit so we can rely on him, we can get shut of Fernando. And there will never be a moment when we miss him.

With the pace and energy of Barry?

We are losing the tie and need to score. Yaya should definitely start.

How do you know about the wanking in the cab?
It's not a love in. What's with the Yaya hate?
We need to score and we want to play extra defensive midfielders that make us about as tight as a porn stars flange?

Lay off Yaya, he's showing incredible levels of energy, stamina and fitness that any other 52 year old would be proud of.

Barry made Yaya look stupid in the last two games. He read the game better and out played him.
I wouldn't be slagging of Gareth's lack of speed. He coped far better than Yaya.

Ha ha. I remember Barry costing us so many times in his last year, tirring to go sideways, losing the ball then desperately fouling somebody as they left him for dead.
