Try to look how many youths from Japan are signed in Germany. They have a very solid football system, or so it seems from the outside. I think the only problem is that the national team doesn't play that many real international games.

On the other side, I remember filth had a player from China, while we had the legendary Sun. But after them is really hard to name a really good player.

Well the average income per person in Japan is about 5x higher than in China. It's like comparing England to South Africa in terms of development

Somewhat related to this topic, I was considering starting a thread last week on Chelsea and how they continue to get such incredible fees for players who are surplus to requirements. Who could we sell for £25 million? There are plenty from whom we would be asking double before even beginning talks, but I can't help but feel that anyone we deem unnecessary would be flogged for £15m or less.

The Chinese window shuts on the 26th February I believe. Hypothetically, do you think we as a club would sell Yaya now if a monster bid of say £30m came in. Yes we would get a huge fee we certainly wouldn't get in the summer, but we then wouldn't have a replacement at a time when games are coming thick and fast

I don't think we'd sell anyone until the summer - not with our record of injuries this season.

How fucking thick can you be? If a country and its citizens have more money, they can spend more on sports, youth development and coaching.

Why do you think the United States is so much better at football than countries like Ethiopia or Vietnam? Americans barely like the sport while people in Ethiopia and Vietnam love it to death. But American kids get trained coaches, equipment, manicured grass fields, clean water, reliable infrastructure, leagues to play in that are mostly free of corruption...

Do you really not see how wealth/average income relates to a country's ability to consistently produce top level athletes?

Wow you really are serious.

First off, per capa income is not the be all and end all to determine how good a nation will be at football.

Having said that, Brazil's average income per person is about 2x of China. Also, football is the main religion in Brazil. It's hugely popular in China, but table tennis, manufacturing, and rice whiskey are the national pastimes of China.

China has many kids who could be great athletes, but they need to work to support their family (instead of train for sports). Plus the coaches there are basic in the extreme. If those same kids were in the UK, Japan, or German they would have 20x more of a chance to develop into a top player.

What am I doing... Am I really having to explain this?! How is this not completely obvious to you?

De Jong's actual balls have more intelligence than you.

Since the 1943 orthographic reform of Portuguese, Brazil is written "Brasil".

We've recently got in on the ground floor of Chinese growth.

Fantastic.

I agree about South Africa.
