McClaren out Benitez in.

Rumours abound on the radio this side of the Irish Sea,that Newcastle will sack manager before the weekend.
Benitez favourite apparently.
Would he keep them up?

Doubt it. Hope they get him though. Never liked Benitez myself and he will struggle there. Newcastle deserve all they get IMO. Remember when Bobby Robson was in charge and he took them into CL, yet that still wasn't good enough and he was hounded out? Be careful what you wish for Geordies, you just might get it

A belt and bracers wouldn't keep them up this season - I was tipping them to survive a month or two back as well.

Having said that, if it is Benitez that comes in, he's supposed to be a bit of an authoritarian by all accounts, so maybe that's what they need.

Good manager to a bad team, strange move for Benitez.

It'll be a contract until the end of the season with a big bonus for keeping them up. No way a Moyes or Rodgers was going to risk their reputations there, so sensible.

However, Benitez isn't the most exciting of coaches and they've got a team with decentt attacking players (Shelvey, Wynaldum (I know, bit can't be arsed checking) Townsend and Doumbia) but they can't defend. Frankly, they just need Keegan and to go for it.

I feel the same. He doesn't deserve half the stick he gets. He's solid. Maybe not my preference stylistically but as good tactically as Mancini. And that wasn't a slam on either manager. Just the opposite.

Cheers

I don't think he's the best guy to keep 'em up. An impact man like Pearson or even a Di Canio would've been good, Benitez long term.

BTW, I really like Shelvey. He reminds me of another mercurial baldy in his pomp Stevie Ireland, great when he wants to be, 4% of the time.

This has Moyes written all over.

No way the waiter is going there. He will keep them up, but it will be a step back for him,

I love shelvey. I think he's good. Maybe not world class or great obvs but he's solid. We could use that off the bench tbh.

No doubt they'll get the new manager bounce just as we play our re-arranged fixture with them

I didn't think they were headed down anyway, but with the Fat Spanish Waiter at the helm I really can't see them dropping now.

Sunderland on the other hand...
