FIFA's November 11th decision

FIFA have just made an interesting decision, which might not be to some people's liking.

England and Scotland play each other on November 11th, Armistice Day, in a World Cup Qualifier.

Both Football Associations have asked FIFA for permission to wear poppy armbands for this game, but FIFA have refused, claiming it's a political statement.

I wonder if the two sides will wear the armbands, in disregard of FIFA's edict ??

Hope they all wear a poppy on the front of their shirts. It's decisions like this, to ban the wearing of a poppy on some bullshit pretext about political statements that alienate so many people. The person who ultimately sanctioned this decision is in the wrong job and probably needs to re-evaluate their priorities in life

The FA's should take it to ACAS to get a ruling on whether poppies are a political statement - in the context of football shirts and remembering the dead obviously they're not.

Seems that they were fine with the Republic of Ireland having a slogan on their shirts commemorating the centenary of the Easter rising.
I've no problem with that, but it's double standards.

FIFA haven't got a leg to stand on if they sanctioned the 1916 uprising shirt. Either they're both fine to wear or neither.

The General Secretary is directly quoted by the BBC as threatening 'any kind of sanction' so yes.
It's a case of ongoing prejudice against 'Britain' by certain elements within FIFA and highlights yet again a lack of transparency (and consistency) of decision making.

FIFA General Secretary on the BBC said they wouldn't like it in Syria, the dead British from their war with us are regarded as a triumph, similarly the Irish etc.
These chaps don't believe that it is worn a symbol of remembrance for lives lost in conflict but rather as a celebration of British wars, which is pity because they've got it wrong.

I say just go for it and fuck them.
I know McClean(I think) chose not to wear it a couple of years back and that's fine with me. Individual choice and all that.
But maybe I have this all wrong, but is the poppy not worn in commemoration of all those that have fallen in battle in WW2.

Why the hell would anyone object to that.

It should not be forgotten. To hell with UEFA. Just do it.
