Have we got Brian?

Postby nottsblue » Sun Jan 15, 2017 3:51 pm

We asked for the Messiah in Pep

Have we actually ended up with Brian?

I for one was thrilled when we appointed Pep and even more so after we won the first ten games. But quite frankly, since then, we have been poor. Too many players are just not pulling their weight and the shambles at the back shows no sign of improving. We are also looking toothless up front as well.

It will be very ironic and typical City that we bring in a guy to win the CL and we aren't even in the fucking thing next season. As it goes I'm not advocating changing the manager. But something is clearly not right within the set up. I think there may be a few big changes in the summer and ones that may surprise folks. I genuinely think Aguero will be allowed to leave and I think he knows this which could be a reason for a poor last few months. None of the defence can be certain of their place and there's probably a few in midfield as well. Talk of wholesale changes is all well and good but if players know they are going to be replaced and not in the managers plans they are unlikely to run through brick walls for him.

This is where Pep needs to show his worth and earn his corn. Otherwise we are in trouble

Well as frustrated as I am on days like today, I have it in my head that the guy needs a proper transfer window once he's had a full season to know exactly what's needed and that hasn't changed.

If it was this time next year, I'd be questioning him directly a lot more than I am right now.

He's acutely aware of what players are too old or not good enough now and I'm sure he'll replace them, so let's give him an opportunity to do that, now that he has worked first hand with the team.

He should have made rejuvenating the defence his first priority, and I don't mean replacing a top shot stopper with a cringing clown. You can get results with a steady defence and an attack worrying about its future. You can't when the defence is worrying about its future as it is a lot easier to concede, even against an inept attack, than it is to score against even mediocre opponents.

I'm very disappointed in Guardiola so far.

Thing that pissed me off the most today was fuckin out swinging corners again! We finally scored from a corner the other week and it was from a very rare in swinger. Does my head in

Its going to get worse before it gets better.

Probably better if we finish 7th or 8th and give him the summer to sort this mess out.

His reputation is on the line and I am confident he is going to turn this around.

Very few big clubs do much at all in the January transfer window to improve their teams.

It is more suited, usually, to mid-table and bottom table clubs trying to find fringe players elsewhere (Schinderlin) or other leagues with players looking to get into the Prem and make more money. You're reaching here mate.

I think if we finish 7th he is on the thinnest of thin ice and the next season has to start like a freight train and not let up

We all had a lot of chuckles and downright guffaws at the Scum's expense when they had, firstly, "Agent Moyes", followed by "Agent Van Ghoul", in charge at the Swamp and we positively split our sides at the good jobs they both did in taking Manure down the League table.

It was a continued source of merriment for us all, but it doesn't feel funny anymore, given our own current state of affairs.

To my mind, Pep has two options available. He either 'risks' bringing in a load of our youngsters who can play the way he wants us to play and do it more effectively than the current incumbents, irrespective of results, or he temporarily abandons his principles on the altar of pragmatism and changes the style of play to suit the said current incumbents.

With regard to the latter option, 'normal service' in the Pep mould can resume next season, after an almighty clear-out and recruitment summer.

With regard to the former option, he might find a number of gems who have risen to the occasion and who could be confidently slotted into the squad for next season, minimising the numbers needing to be bought in the summer.

I don’t like the way he is coming across in those interviews, he is giving off an ominous vibe. He doesn't look that happy in the City job, or being in England. Lets be honest he has no real affinity to City like we do. He is only with us because he thought the Premier League was a piss easy league, and it was good money in the bank. He didn't have stress in the script .

People talk about Guardiola signing contract extensions. We really do need to get through this season first so he can test his mettle. City is a stressful job, as he is finding out. A few more results like today, then anything is possible with Guardiola. He might decide to walk, he is an emotional man. Remember he took that sabbatical because he was stressed out.

He badly underestimated the Premier League. He thought it would be a walk in the park, he has acknowledged himself he got this wrong. This isn't Spain Or Germany with 1,2, team leagues, teams don’t just roll over and die, stand off and watch whilst you play total football.

The next few games will either make him, or break him.

At the moment, he's surviving on reputation. If we'd brought in Giuseppe Guardioni from somewhere in Europe, everyone would think we'd made a mistake. The only reason people are on the fence or still on side is because of what he has done previously and we think/hope he can repeat the trick. This is undoubtedly his biggest challenge

To my eyes this is the problem. We have very rich well meaning owners. They want the best team in the world to boost their image. They are happy to pay for it. But they have no knowledge of or true interest in football. So they ask"which is the best team in the world?" Barcelona comes the answer. "OK, get their executives and team manager, money is no object" But of course that is a ploy riddled with uncertainty. Football teams have periods of success but the reasons are not so easy to identify. Would Edwards and Ferguson have been any good outside their own set up? Would Joe Fagan and the Moores family? What is certain is that, since the Spafia have been here the buys have been poor, morale has for the most part been low, and we have brought nobody through. And that doesn't look like changing any time soon. The team keep producing weak performances and are beaten by less skilled players who simply work harder and are better organised. Nothing organic is happening. And we are surprised when the world delights in our discomfort and some idiots start spouting conspiracy theories. But the fact is, if we are honest, we all know that in sporting and human terms the project is flawed. We only have to look at a day in the life of Ya Ya to know that. Sickening to watch Milner and Barry playing for other teams and simply out gritting us.

It's a funny game for managers. Paul Jewell did a great job at Bradford and Wigan but was useless at Derby and Ipswich. I think they are less important than they are given credit for. Having the best players is the best way to have success over a period of time.
