I'm the opposite, I want a Dipper win. Spurs are better overall and will take a place. Dippers are close but if they keep the Rags out, I'm happy.

I would've thought we'd want Liverpool to win so we can catch Spurs

Put him in my FFT, the only bonus I've got! Somehow put Defoe as my Captain, I must've been pissed!

Good game though and Mane is really looking the part, especially for a supposed midfielder.

Come clean NB, You just enjoy watching all those poor unfortunate Scousers trying to drown themselves in the Mersey, with every fresh catastrophic setback which befalls the Dippers.

Going back to Spurs, on the wireless this morning they were saying that Harry Kane will be playing his 150th game for them. Was a bit surprised at that, as it seems he's only been around for five minutes. Time flies, I suppose, when you're having fun on this forum.

With regard to your earlier post about unbiased commentators, I was racking my brains trying to remember what it was like before football was invented in 1992. There always seems to have been a love for the Scum irrespective of anything else but it was far more measured and the commentators were of a greater calibre, knowledge, integrity and competence than the current incumbents, which tended to lead to more level playing fields.

They were also football fans/lovers, once again, unlike the current batch of incumbents.

All in all, the Premier League and Sky have a lot to answer for.

I grew up watching football from the very early '80s. There were commentators of the calibre of Barry Davies, John Motson, David Coleman, Gerald Sindstat, Brian Moore to name some. Obviously the coverage of football is far more saturated than back then and there weren't the vast array of camera angles and live games there are now. But the commentators actually commentated on the game as it unfolded. This modern trend of having two or three or even four in some BT cases doesn't add anything for the viewer IMO.

The punditry at half and full time seemed to be more analytical and unbiased than it is now. Though nostalgia does play tricks with the memory so that may not actually be true. All in all I think the whole package has got worse over the years and the common denominator in this has been the coverage from Sky

Don't know about commentators, I'm just following on the BBC, and TBH I can't see the screen for jizz.
Must be murder actually listening to them.

One of the best pieces of half-time analysis must be the one from Wembley, in 1973, when England were playing Poland in a World Cup qualifier. The late, great Brian Clough described the Polish 'keeper, Jan Tomaszewski as a "joke" and was still unrepentent at the final whistle, in spite of the fact that he had played the game of his life, to help see England knocked out of the competition.

If Cloughie was alive today and in his prime, the current crop of commentators, pundits, so called experts and journalists wouldn't last two minutes in the firing line of his scathing tongue.

English football today badly needs someone of Cloughie's ilk, not afraid to speak their mind.

The interview ITV had with Revie and Clough after he had just been sacked by Leeds was remarkable as well. Both did punditry work whilst managers and the whole thing would be unthinkable today. Brilliant TV though

I think the salient word there mate is 'saturated'. Back in those days you were left feeling that you wanted more, it's as if you were left hanging. Now it's very different, I'll still watch as many games as possible but it doesn't give me that same feeling.

I'll be honest though, it feels like I've been away for so long but now nearing the end of my stint, I just can't wait to get back to be home everyday and enjoy the culture that I grew up with.

Can we reopen Maine Road ;-)

I remember one evening in the very early 1970s when Brian Moore was hosting a football chat preamble, prior to a mid-week international and he had Cloughie, Big Mal, Revie and Frank O'Farrell (at that time manager of the Scum).

The programme hadn't been going for too long before Revie and O'Farrell started to 'have a go' at Big Mal. It wasn't just banter but hardline venom and dislike being spewed out by these two who, temperamentally and in football ideology, were the complete antithesis of Big Mal, his ideas, footballing philosophy and lifestyle.

I don't know if Big Mal was stunned or just amused because he didn't rise to bile they were spouting and just kept a quizzical smile on his face. Cloughie, however, had no compunctions about taking these two on and jumped to Big Mal's defence. He completely wiped the floor with them and made them look like the football destroyers they really were, with the dubious methods they employed to win games.

Poor old Brian Moore was working overtime as a mediator and it was only his efforts, plus the TV adverts, which stopped proceedings developing into fisticuffs.

It made enthralling viewing though and Cloughie was supremely in his element.

Bit before my time mate but I'd guess that Ckoughie was proved right. Didn't realise you were that old though, will give you more respect now though. Grandad ;-)

Happy with that result. A win for us on Monday would see us pull clear of the rest of the chasing pack and we can only hope anyway to win our games and that Chelsea will slip.

Icing on the cake would be to see Liverpool and United 5th and 6th - or preferably overtaken by Everton and West Brom.
