De gayer is a good keeper, no doubt, but I've never seen him play out from the back like we do. Any time I've seen him with the ball at his feet, I've been less than impressed.
Not a Pep type of player I would say, but definitely has saved the Rags over the past two years at least.

Has he been asked to play out from the back under his previous managers though? We won't know until he plays for a team with that style

Anyway I want my keepers to make saves first and foremost otherwise we may as well put Yaya or Silva in goal

Not disagreeing about how good a keeper he is Feshie.
Just saying I don't think he's any better than Hart, for example, at the kind of play Pep likes.
Not saying I wouldn't mind a keeper that saves.

I know you're not but I'm just saying it's difficult to judge how good he is at playing out from the back when he has never been asked to do so on a consistent basis. As he is still young there is a chance he could adapt his style of play - there are rumours that Joe was unwilling to do so. Regardless De Gea's distribution is still better than Joe's (which isn't difficult I'll admit)
