Clever. Very very clever! In that case, who is our modern day Publius Cornelius Scipio?

Phew.....that's a cracking question BJ.

No-one seems to immediately spring to mind but, if pressed very hard, I might suggest (daft as it may seem) 'Arry of the Brown Envelopes.

If you had any suggestions BJ - or if anyone else did - I'd love to hear them but we might consider such in the 'Off Topic' section, as it would make a great thread all of its own.

What a terrific question though :P :P

How about you form the question and start a thread.

I have my own views which I'm still mulling over.

Now then - a much-loved Italian who, despite a few crucial defeats, retained the confidence of his supporters and was brought down by Spanish bribery - let me see.... ;)

Crikey JC, when you put it like that, it's as plain as the nose on Cirano Ibrahimovic's ugly face.

Debate over !!

Agreed if by Spanish Bribery we also mean Spain changing sides from Tunisia to Rome and stabbing Hannibal in the back.

Or am I missing something?

Possibly BJ. I was reading in wiki about the defeat and death of your chap at the battle of Baetis River in Andalucia - which was apparently due to the desertion of his Celtiberians warriors, who were bribed by Hasdrubal Barca, Hannibal's brother - note the connection ;)

Now that really is totally uncalled for. BJ is neither daft nor snarky - lighten up my friend.
