Professional footballer bets on his own team, and football in general even after several well publicised prosecutions in the past few years. Then tries to claim special exemption for his own personal ethics. I have no sympathy for him.

He's appealed. I wouldn't put money on him winning it though...

He's appealing the length, if he fails then surely that is career finished as he'll be 36 when he can play again...............

I agree he has broken the rules. But correct me if I am wrong, but is 18 months the going rate for these type of offences? Or is his punishment disproportionate?
Personally, I think it's a silly rule. I don't understand why a footballer can't bet on football, as long as he isn't betting on his own side.

He did though. He bet on some of our games when he was playing for us. Had bets on himself scoring, which makes you wonder about him taking shots when other options may have been on.

Gobshite and a thug who thinks he is some kind of wise person. When the truth is he is one of the biggest wankers going. Should ban him for life. I would if I had the choice.

Fair dos then. He is a silly boy there's no doubt about that. Looks like he is finished as a player at the top level. Whether he could come back at a lower level and whether anyone would have him remains to be seen

Odds on he'd get banned.

Agreed, the stakes are quite high on his appeal not resulting in him being dealt a soft hand.

Have to say that bit with Samaras is bonkers.
Imagine George finding out after all these years why Joey's passes were that shit.

He hated Samaras mate. I'm sure he made it known. Actually, I remember him making it known to everyone on his interview on GMR after the Watford draw.
He said something like "we shouldn't be signing someone whose scored seven goals in the butlins league". It was just before he dug out Dabo and Hamman in an interview.

I hope his addiction has sent him broke and then extend his ban for wasting their time with the appeal.
Fuck him.

my mate used to make a decent living from betting on behalf of other people - gave it up before he was rumbled

What he's done is less corrupt than what the ref will do tomorrow - and he'll no doubt be gifted a cup-final for his exertions.
