The Minnows are swarming

Postby Florida Blue » Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:09 am

Tough words...

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/118215/Steve-Wharton-thinks-Scunthorpe-can-bring-City-back-to-earth/

SCUNTHORPE chairman Steve Wharton reckons his Championship minnows can bring Roberto Mancini’s superstars crashing back down to earth on Sunday.

Premier League giants Manchester City travel to Glanford Park looking to avoid an FA Cup fourth round banana skin against Nigel Adkins’ men.

Mancini’s players will be on a high following their Carling Cup semi-final, first leg win over neighbours Manchester United on Tuesday night.

But Wharton reckons Mancini’s millionaires will be in for a shock at Glanford Park, which has a capacity of just 9,000.

And he believes Adkins can get the better of Mancini in the battle of the bosses to engineer a famous cup win for the underdogs.

Wharton said: “I can’t speak highly enough of the job Nigel has done over the last three years and I’m sure he will come out on top in the battle of wits with Roberto Mancini.

“It is difficult to say what they will make of Glanford Park because I have no idea whether any of them will have faced anything like it before.

“We play good football and have a good home record, so the players will be quietly confident they can spring a surprise.”
I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I am all out of bubblegum.

Hi mate,
You wouldn't understand much of that Bryan Mate...it is written in a little known dialect, only used these days in the areas around South Yorkshire shire and the bog trotting villages of Lincolnshire shire. I will translate the meanings of some of the phrases for you.

..."Mancini's superstars crashing down to Earth"..."What is an airplane?"
..."Mancini's millionaires will be in for a shock at Glanford Park"..."Our stands have thatched roofs."
..."Adkins can get the better of Mancini"....""In a sheep shagging competition."
..."I can't speak highly enough of the job Nigel has done"..."He's shite but very cheap."...or..."I have a falsetto voice."
..."I am sure he will come out on top in a battle of wits with Roberto mancini"..."He once won the Scunny Sunday League when managing the Ewe and Condom Public House team...Mancini never won that has he?"
..."It is difficult to say"..."I am educationally subnormal and don't know a lot of words."
..."What they will make of Glanford Park"..."Can they play round sheep and cattle?"...or..."It is built out of lego blocks"
..."We have a good home record"..."...and a modern gramaphone on which to play it"
..."The players will be confident"..."We haven't told them they are playing City yet"
..."They can spring a suprise"..."We can't afford a strip, so we will be playing naked"

I hope that helps you understand the above piece a little better...Always here to help...as you know.

I must admit that I am a bit concerned about this game. I don;t think some of our players can handle a physical encounter and wonder if our manager has ever had to send a team out against the likes of Scunthorpe before? I just hope that the players and management are up to the task.

Small club puffing out their chests and looking forward to a game of football against a giant of a club, this is their cup final and they are trying to gee up their players for it. Nowt wrong with that imo. That's what the FA Cup is all about and i love it.

Nothing wrong with Scunny making all the right noises . Really looking forward to this game as it's going to be a test for the manager and squad. I'm expecting starting places for Boyata, Petrov, Ireland and Benjani . Keep Tevez & Bellers away from this one & would expect him to try Vieira out if he's fit

Agree with you, but I think we will see Robinho start instead of Petrov.

John, thank you, it is perfectly clear there are a lot of highly educated sheep with high libidos and lowly educated people in the area willing to satisfy them.

Thanks for the laugh, brilliant.

this squad beat them 5-1 didn't it, so should be up to the task
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Different ground , different atmosphere, maybe a below par pitch it has all the ingredients for an upset which is why it's on tv.We need enough of the really good pros out there and all will be fine towards another final.
