I know that testimonials are supposed to be ten years. Who was the last player to play for us for ten years? I know he has only done 9 seasons, but I can't think of a Man City player who deserves a testimonial more than him. What do you guys think?

Weaver. He didn't get a testimonial.

It's not about money it's about an Argentinian that become an adopted manc and loves city. Agueros great, tevez was a great player , but Zabba is loyal and blue.

Testimonials were about giving players a bit of a pension pot when they stopped earning and would be hard up.
Not appropriate for 100k pw multi millionaires.
Some other way yes

I agree with that St John but I can't think of another way. A friendly game at home, dedicated to Zabba, seems the only way. The money could go to local kids......Zabba doesn't need to pocket it.

I'm fairly sure we had similar conversation about Hart, I said then that whilst everyone agrees a player doesn't need said pay day of old (pension or whatever you want to call it)....
Have a testimonial where the net money goes to a charity be it split between players choice and a local one.
We get to give the player a good send off and show our appreciation.
Problem these days is with post season tournaments (have we got this year??), WC or Euros and others, then pre-season, not to mention the amount of games we now play each season by having runs in league cup, FA Cup and chumps league all impact an ideal window for such a game.....

His name is Richard Dunne, 9 seasons, club captain and 4 time City POTY.
When he gets one, Zabs can have one too.

I thought Dunne only did a 9 year stretch?

There is no specific number of years set in stone for a testimonial. In years gone by it was deemed 10 years was a good number to base it on but the fact is there isn't any rule on this. It's up to the player and the club to determine if they would like one. I prefer a testimonial to be played when someone is hanging their boots up for good. Maybe let zaba come back in 3 years and have one then.

Last testimonial we gave was Brightwell's, I think (with Paul Lake being the season before). Was the last one we were involved in the one for Dennis Irwin, or have we played others since?
My dad has a programme from probably the most unusual testimonial we've ever played in; Lancashire bowler Ken Higgs's. We played against the Rags ... at cricket. Here's an article about the game:
