Really looking like this is the formation Pep wants to go with.

I can see why given how we've been playing utilising it.

Ederson
Kompany Stones Otamendi
Yaya
Danilo Kevin Silva Sane
Jesus Aguero

in such a formation when, presumably, Walker and Mendy are the starting wingbacks looks like one of Sane, Sterling, Aguero, and Jesus will be left out. not to mention Bernardo Silva. hope this 3-5-2 is just preseason work getting used to it and we use a standard back 4 during the season

I dont' think this is such a huge problem.

We need to keep the team fit. It's about what is the most effective formation, and so far it is showing itself to be this.

Sane is starting as a wingback today and Sterling has played as one before as well. One of those players will have to sit anyway.

It may also be just to work on an alternative formation, but I think it actually does what we needed more of last season providing good enough defensive cover, but also better attacking play.

I was only able to see highlights of the games from the US tour. Was Stones playing in the centre of the back 3 in those games as well?
