I guess that, with Mendy as the only left-footed LB, Guardiola is using the opportunity before the transfer window closes to try Sane out as LWB in a competitive game. If it doesn't work out he can always swap in Danilo, and let's see whether he uses his left foot to cross like he did in preseason.
