Team for Scunny?

Postby Wooders » Sat Jan 23, 2010 12:47 pm

Haven't seen a thread for this yet but I would go

Given
Zabba Onuaha Boyota Garrido
SWP Ireland Vieira Petrov
Benjani Robinho

I would have played Weiss over SWP to be honest and let him leave on Monday but maybe Bolton don't want him cup tied (if he isn't already??)
I would also be tempted to blood another youngster up front in place of Benjani - maybe David Ball?

pretty much agree, although may be an idea to play ned and vince in order to help develop better understanding together prior to swamp

i'd go with that wooders, but maybe keep micah in there at RB.

worried about right mid though, we NEED Shaun fit and firing for the swamp.

who else is there for that position though? maybes Vlad should have been kept until after this tie.

edit: afaik Ball is still injured mate. i'd bring Alex Nimley in.

Absolutely. Also if we don't defend properly we'll lose, they'll ask a lot of questions if we give them the opportunity. It's a tight ground with a sticky pitch which may not suit our attacking players so we may have to keep it tight & dig out a goal or two before we can relax.

back four is up in the air but based on what mancini said yesterday here is front 6,

ireland (defensive midfielder Not barry or Dejong so maybe zab) sylvinho

Robinho
Benji petrov

To be honest i really would like to see a close to full strenght back four of

micah nedum komps and bridge (fit again) but think he will employ youth,

Im not a fan of experimenting in the FA cup as it is a very prestigous competiton

I'd rest NDJ and go with Zabba but thats the only change so gives Bellers, Tevez and Nigel enough rest and puts Stevie, Robbie and others into contention if they have a blinder.

Are Bridge and Vieira close to fitness now?

Difficult one. We have a depleted squad and a dodgy away FA cup tie we just need to get through.

I'd go for somethig like

--------------------Given
Richards---Onuoha---Kompany---Garrido
---------Zabaletta-----Sylvinho
SWP-------------Ireland------------Petrov
------------------Benjani

Keep Tevez, Bellemy, Barry and De Jong fresh for Tuesday and who knows what Ade or Robinho could provide that night? My back would be the same for Tuesday also barring injury

I'd play Petrov on the right and Robbie on the left, maybe even give Taylor a go in between the sticks

I`d try

Richards---Onuoha---Kompany---Sly
------------------Zab
SWP-------------Ireland------------Petrov
---------- Benjani--Robbie

Subs, Given, Ball, Boyata, Tevez, Garrido, Bellers, NDJ.

If Petrov, Ireland, and Robinho play there'll be too much speed and skill for Scunny to cope with. Even though Ireland hasn't looked like the player he was last season he'll have more room against this lot, his cleverness and those through balls he plays will give Robinho chances. And Petrov down the wing will be able to put in his crosses, not many do it better. 2-0 or 3-0 City, comfortable.

If Petrov and Robinho play from the start, one things for sure, scunny will outwork us and probably see more of the ball and gain confidence. Its proven that away from home we cannot carry the pair of them against Premiership sides. We'll see how we get on away in League One.

Scunny will pack the midfield and aim to stop us playing. The pitch wont be the bowling green we are used to playing on. We should pack the midfield too at the start to negate their tactics. Keep a high line defensivly, push our front man onto their last man, someone sitting and 2 roamers in midfield, 2 widemen hugging the touchline to stretch the defence.

I feel a bit like this.Whoever plays will have to be up for it in the first 20/30 minutes as Scunny will go for it. I worry about having 3 up front who are Petrov,Robi and Benjani especially if the actual midfield isn't very strong. Having 3 really forward thinking players who don't contribute when we haven't got the ball could be a problem. But if they combine and score 2 early goals.................

Apart from Given for Taylor, I'm happy with that. 2nd string HAS to be good enough if we're to progress Weds

Does anyone know if Vieira is fit enough to play?
"Like all bullies, they've just found out that there is a much bigger guy in town, someone who is richer and more powerful than their worst nightmare. And this smiling Arabic assassin is intent on stealing all the treasures they've nicked off everyone else, and pulverising them into commercial and footballing oblivion as he does so."
