81 Cup final. City wore blue. Simple.

Its been a rocky journey since then, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sounds very similar to myself although I started in the mid 70s, probably not long after the time of the 76LCF (like the rest of the country, I was mesmerized by that Tueart goal) - does that make me a glory hunter or was it me who put the fckin scud on us for the last 34 years???

Over here its either Scouse Red or the Scum with some Arse, Chelsea, Spuds, Scouse Blue thrown in. I do remember one game after I had taken the Sky Blue oath where we beat Scouse Red about 3-1 (maybe some on here remember that?) I gave some stick in the playground that Monday morning I can tell you.................

I'm happy to say both my sons were quick to take up the Sky Blue banner and we all wear our colours with pride over here amidst a sea of filth............

Didnt realise we had so many Belfast blues on the forum.

The short answer is Kazimierz Deyna.
I had actually forgotten how I started supporting City until a couple of years ago when my younger brother ( a Leeds fan !!) reminded me.
Watching the 1974 World Cup, the team that caught my attention with their attractive football was Poland. They managed 3rd place in that year after beating Brazil.
They went on to play in the 1978 WC and soon after their captain the a/m Kazimierz Deyna joined City when it was still not so fashionable for foreigners to play in England especially from Eastern Europe. From 78 to 81 he played 38 times and scored 12 goals.
This was the trigger that got me to pay attention to City and follow what they were doing and the rest as they say is history.
I guess my love for City was cemented during the 1981 FA Cup final and replay (still hurts when I remeber it) and it also helped that my favourite colour is Blue !
On a sad note while looking up Deyna on Wiki, I found out that he died in a car crash in the U.S. in 1989 at the age of 41.
