"highest standards"?? ffs try to get past your nostalgia and just admit that he HAS been garbage this year. and it's not just his sh*t attacking play, either. his running off the ball, pressing and tackling have also gone to sh*t, which (combined with gundo's usual disappearing act) made our midfield piss easy for spurs to pass through.

At the risk of being ridiculed and verbally abused with my opinion, but, here goes anyway.

El mago is not past it. He's never relied on pace, so that isn't an issue for me. Even if he is off form, he's still the most gifted footballer on that pitch 99 times out if 100.

To be honest, I can't understand this being discussed myself... but each to their opinion.

He may not create chances as much as he once did, but he's still got the figures to back up the fact that he still warrants a place in the side. I love watching him... and still do.

He hasn't been any worse than anyone else in this supposed bad run if form...I just don't understand the criticism.

All true but he has slowed down in his play this season which sees him caught in possession more often than you’d have seen in the previous 9 years.
Passing sloppier too.
He’s being judged on the exceptional standards that he himself set.

He still has a huge performance in him. The guy still has it, there is no doubt and hopefully he just needs a well earned rest this summer and he’ll be up for it again next season.

I also agree with whoever mentioned that he links excellently with Sane and probably other team selections don’t suit him or help him either.

But currently he is well below par, for him.

I don't think anyone is questioning his importance in the past. He may well have an important role in the future, but should we be giving him a free pass into the side automatically or exploring other avenues?

I believe the main thrust of the Silva-out protagonists is that he isn't doing enough now, this moment, to stay in the side. It's either a fatigue issue or it's better to burn out than fade away.

On the other hand, if Mahrez is in the side, I'd rather see us re-sign Navas than get rid of Silva.
