Fair play to the Leeds fans who cheered their team on to the very end with very few of them leaving. They deserve better than what is being served them

Vaccines don’t work like that, mate. They can’t stop you catching it or from transmitting it, they are there to build up your immunity in order to fight it and stop you having severe symptoms, basically trying to keep you out of hospital. Even that’s not guaranteed.

It took more than twenty years to develop the polio vaccine, did it not?

And you’re talking about 1930’s. Surely science and medicine has advanced since then?

I have no idea really, but it could be that this is a virus and you can't stop it the same way as, say, leprosy. I think that is a contagious disease and is different to a virus. Like I said, i have no idea. The cold is the same thing, a virus, and there is no 'cure'. Any medical people on here?

There was a doctor that is on here and he mentioned what the media are telling us about the virus is bollocks. Can’t remember the username.

Drop this convo to off topic so people on a football forum don’t have to read it.

Will any matches get postponed today?

Spurs haven’t played for a while so a great time to play them for Liverpool.

It does, doesn’t it, but it’s not. Smallpox was the same, I think, where it formed further variants to try and beat the vaccine.

To be honest, I think the only reason that we are still open and allowed to go to watch football is because the government are scared of the fallout from the public and the cost of a shutdown. That scientist bloke basically told us where we are at the moment.

No VVD for the dippers though. And their record when he doesn't play as to when he does is night and day.

And Kane is due a goal is he not.

Ok, I'm clutching at straws, but I live in hope

As Spurs have missed a couple of games (last game on 5 Dec) you’d think that they’d have isolated and would now be clear. I’m not sure if that helps them though as they may not have trained and could still have players missing.

I think the last paragraph there Beefy sums it up. I think as a country we haven't the money to support another enforced and extended lockdown with furlough and the rest of the fallout that would ensue. And as such the government is trying to stumble through whilst hoping the wave peaks and we return to normal.

Or, controversially, do they have information that the strain of Omicron is not as deadly as previous strains and they are hoping that people get it and it then the virus dies out, like the original herd mentality we were told of in the first weeks of the virus breaking out on 2020?

The stats are looking so and, as many of these type of viruses, they mutate to stay alive and are made weaker by doing so. This is all about risk management and the likelihood of flooding the NHS. Keeping football and other big events open is a huge risk for the spread of infection but the question is of whether those who get infected then show major symptoms. Also, whether it has an adverse effect on those who work in the NHS. Are we nearing saturation point, maybe.

One thing we know is that the PL and the broadcasters will want to keep football going, starting with empty stadiums, once more.

Is VVD injured? Hopefully he has niggles the rest of his career now thanks to Sir Pickford of Scouseland.
