Can we tell them'' to go fuck yourself '' instead ?

It’s fair enough. He is their player under a long term contract. They have their valuation of the player and what they are willing to accept. If a buying club doesn’t meet that figure then it’s tough on the buying club.
If that was us with Bernie for example and Barca say, offered way below our valuation then we wouldn’t accept the bid. We would say no. Presumably which is what happened with Ake and Chelsea.
If we want him then due to his contract situation, we either pay up or move on.
Which quite frankly is how it should be

Yes and no. By the sounds of what MC’s agent is leaking to the press, he signed for Brighton with the promise that if a “bigger” club comes in with a reasonable offer they would let him move on.
We’ve offered £30m and they bought him for £16m a year ago. Doubling your money in 12 months is fairly reasonable.
I think these players will realise soon that they need it in their actual contract and not just take the chairman’s word for it.

But he was happy to sign a long term contract on presumably a higher salary and with no release clause.
Sounds rather similar to Kanes situation last summer
He is Brightons player on a long term deal. They hold the best cards. It's up to us as the buying club to pay Brighton asking price, or certainly enough for them to sell. Not for us to pay our valuation and expect Brighton to sell.
