I think a few people mentioned at the start of the season that this would be an 'off year' for Liverpool. I'm pretty sure there was a blog posted on here a couple of years back that mentioned asthma/caffeine doping follows a pattern: 2 good years, 1 bad year, 1 good year, 1 bad year. Obviously, new squad members coming in amortize peaks and troughs of squad performance a bit (I wonder if Nunez, Gakpo et al. have been diagnosed as asthmatic yet?), but there's an overall decline in the effectiveness of the doping tactic in the long term.
I remember that blog - before the 20/21 season I think.
Somebody predicted a bad season for Liverpool and explained why - they were spot on.
Liverpool finished the season with 5 games in 15 days and won them all. Looked like a season end inhaler top up to make the CL.
Looks like they used up all the inhalers last season going for the quadruple or as the media say '...only two games short of immortality...'
This season I read somewhere that their running stats are way down and they have a lot of injuries.
That is all I need to know. The same players cannot cover the same distances and they are getting injured.
I think I am correct in saying the same pattern as 20/21. Lots of injuries and less intensity in open play.
Aside from the above, it looks to me like the Klopp era is petering out.
His carefully cultivated image is being exposed as fake, the media have started to question him, teams know how to hurt Liverpool and are no longer afraid of them but most importantly his players look like they don't believe he is the messiah anymore and FSG will not give him the money to replace them.
I cannot see him turning this around and I hope it is a long painful victim driven parting.
(i could be wrong though, maybe Nunez will start banging them in as the media keep telling us, Salah will be his old self.....)
