Amazon tried hard last night to get someone to say it shouldn't have been a penalty but couldn't because, rightly or wrongly, the laws of the game say a penalty must be awarded for the handball. In yesterdays Edinburgh derby Hibs were awarded a similar penalty and nobody made any issue of it, in fact the commentators phrase was "Is that a handball? Yes it was!"
Even the non-award of a penalty for Liverpool against Arsenal has been dragged out as an excuse not to give us the penalty - "Why is that a penalty if the Odegaard one wasn't". That was a wrong decision and should have been a penalty but should not influence other incidents.

I know it's not a recent change. Was actually funny last night watching Owen and Clattenburg have to admit that under the laws of the game the penalty had to be awarded. One thing I don't get is why a 6ft 4in player thinks sliding in to block a shot that's in the air makes him more likely to block the shot, logically if he stood up strong and took the shot to the body or face then we wouldn't be having this discussion as even if the ball had struck his arm with it being in a natural upright position no penalty would have been awarded.
