If you live in the UK, you will see a BBC website free of advertising.

Live anywhere else and the BBC thrives on clickbait advertising.

It would be interesting to see just exactly who is getting paid for the clickbait adverts at the Beeb.

Looks like Villa are waking up :-

Aston Villa owner calls for overhaul of Premier League spending rules

Aston Villa owner Nassef Sawiris

"The rules have actually resulted in cementing the status quo more than creating upward mobility and fluidity in the sport, they do not make sense and are not good for football.”

Spot on as usual - interesting that its in the times and goes against the sensationalisation of the original story.

Think his son works for CFG - so maybe the points he makes about a better way to manage finances might be direct from City? They certainly make sense and won't be liked by the yanks as it includes oweners having to gift the money to clubs to make up the difference and not loan.

Any chance of a job for Martin at City doubling his salary from the Times. Just do a write up of the matches or something.

The guy is class!!

Bang on point.

Yet again

He may not be the only journalist out there to actually understand what the red shirts originally concocted with FFP and all the subsequent financial restraints they are browbeaten the PL into introducing, and what it actually means for competition.

But he is the only one who puts his views into print. I rather suspect others may realise what is going on (they aren't presumably all absolute morons), but for whatever reasons they choose not to print what they know is the truth but rather what their paymasters dictate

Long may Samuels reign

He also speaks total sense about Pep.
I think people forget how bad we were in Pellers last season. We got 66 points losing 10 games and scraped into the CL in 4th place on GD.
Going to be a nightmare replacing him.

Arsenal got 89 points this season with Arteta as manager. Any reason why we can’t find an Arteta to take over after Pep?

No reason at all.

And as a club we are in a far better position in 2024 than we were a decade ago. Financially and on the pitch as well. We are by far the most successful club in England in the last decade and as such our gravitas will dictate we will have managers approaching us. And compare that to the rags where over the past month eligible managers have distanced themselves from the job

But it isn’t going to be easy to replace Pep when it comes to it. He is the best there is, so the next guy isn’t going to be an upgrade. The rags and Arsenal both struggled after successful managers left. The dippers will also likely see a drop off in their performance.

The right appointment and we continue to dominate, but the wrong appointment could see a period of indifference. But as it goes, I think Pep stays on a bit longer

Pep's got over 90 practically every season. Arteta has 1 FA Cup in 5 years, He's done well but there's a big difference between that and what we've had.
My point is there's hardly any names out there, Alonso who's probably Madrid bound- other than that who is there.

You specifically used the fact Pellers got 66 points. It’s the silly “let’s get Fat Sam in” argument again, as if he’s the only manager in the world.

Arteta would have two league medals if it wasn’t for Pep.

I specifically used that because of what Pep walked into.
Martin Samuel in his article seems pretty convinced there's going to be a downturn when he leaves as well.
Ole would have a league medal if not for Pep too.

Most journalists know what the truth is and so does that slob Jordan - unfortunately Journalism has gone down the gutter as far as printing the truth is concerned and most journalists are under pressure from their employers to ensure they get as many clicks as possible - the truth is not what gets clicks , sensationalism and following current narratives in the public domain is what its all about these days.

Real journalism is a thing of the past - apart from a few real journalists like MS.

You can not simply assume that because Pep is here - or , rather than any other manager would not have won the league in the years that Oli or Arteta have been managers and runners up
