The Champions League is indeed incorrectly named. It should be called something else.
However, as a competition it requires far more from teams than the old European Cup, which was , quite frankly , crap.
The occasional good game where two top, or in form teams met .
Scouse at Wembley against Brügge were dead lucky to win it, for example (Dalglish).
The very idea that Madrid should be given so much room for winning a competition where they actually invited teams to play in is a joke.
The European Cup needs to be buried in history and archived. Absolutely nothing like the football we see today.
(Best in his heyday turned up pissed for a lot of games). nothing like the fitness levels of the modern game.

I think we finally agree.
You could win the European Cup by winning two games at one point - that’s nothing like the Champions League.

But you also HAD to win your domestic league to be in it. Which made it arguably harder to win
