So if the Sheikh did pay in reality the only person who could scupper the deal would be Dzeko himself if he did not want join us?.
Well, I'd be surprised if Dzeko didn't want to come.
Manchester City to flex financial muscles by beating Liverpool to Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez

Manchester City are weighing up a deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez.
The highly-rated 21-year-old has been linked with Liverpool over recent years but City scouts have monitored him closely in recent months and have been putting together an extensive file documenting his background, habits and personality.
They also had scouts in the crowd in Austria on Saturday as he made his full Spain debut coming on as a substitute for Barcelona's Xavi against Saudi Arabia.
Martinez, who is rated at around £18million, is 6ft 3ins tall and plays in an attacking midfield position.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is a big fan but cannot compete financially with City who are working through a list of targets headed by Valencia's David Silva

Hasn't he been linked to Milan in the past, and also went to them after we had bid to see if they could compete?

I have seen this link once before. Then I saw it the yesterday in a Spanish report saying that after Yaya had refused us we were turning our attention to Javi Martinez. But right at the end it quoted it's source as the News of the World.

Bit of a tenuous link, but one none-the-less. Had a look round this morning and he's being touted for many of the big clubs including Real, Barca, Chelsea and Liverpool, so must have something about him. Saying that, he is happy at Bilbao and because he's a young lad, I'd assume he wouldn't be wanting to move too far from his homeland at the moment.

Personally he doesnt seem like our first choice to me, and i dont if hes worth that much money. If we are ''the only serious candidate'', then why do we need to offer 34 million? The player wants to come, no1 else is that arsed, so why dont we offer 15 million tomorrow at 9am?

Nick wrote:Yeah but either way, U***d milan etc. dont have that much money to bid. So surely he'd be ours for around 20 million.
If offer the amount, talk to him, then pull out and bid less tomorrow. But that would piss Wolfsburg off and I suppose we could lose him to another team.
People are expecting an announcement today. It is bank holiday though so I doubt it.
