I think you can make a reasonable argument for the role and Kenyon in particular. But i still think cook and marwood are doing ok. This could be their "hughes" season to put up or shut up and show their professionalism. Perhaps if this summer is a bust we would see a shake up but for me the signing of jinky was a nice coup and i expect a couple more of those this summer plus 2 seasoned creative midfield players. If they can land that then i don't think anyone can fault them for effort.

Conmpletely disagree. They did bottle it.

We were offering a 9 figure sum for Kaka. Milan fans were unhappy at the thought of selling to City, a club probably a few of their fans had heard of.

They then sold him to Real Madrid for 40 million less.

But because it's Real Madrid it is deemed as acceptable, but at the end of the day they're 40 million out of pocket and sold him to a Champions League rival.

Cook was spot on. They bottled it.

Agree to an extent but I'd rate Cook's efforts so far as below par.

Aside from pulling off transfers, I'd really like him to cut out the verbal gaffs such as refering to us as the rags, twice, accusing one of the biggest clubs in the world of being 'bottle merchants', stating the Dunnie wouldn't sell shirts in Asia, generally making a laughing stock out of us whilst out on the piss in NY and just be a bit more classy and understanted. He even got the season wrong at the end of season awards.

He just winds me up and I've always felt he was the wrong man for ther job. Someone who quietly and effectively goes about his business and delivers results was / is what we need. Someone with a bit of class. Not a loud mouth who is full of piss and wind. I cringed when he embraced Tevez at the front door of COMS before the press conference. If we say that Cook and Khuldoon are the two men pulling the strings at City then we're looking at two very, very different personalities. The interview on the City site with Khuldoon was professional. He was very eloquent and poised yet very affable, too. And then we have Cook with his perma-grin and gaffe dropping. I too have never taken to him since day one. I find him smarmy, insincere and unable to do his job (dealing with Journalists) whilst he seems to prefer socialising with City Fans. That Press Conference to introduce Mancini buried him, IMHO. He looked terrified.

I know lots of Fans don't like their Chairman or Chief Exec - but I'm yet to hear anyone detail a similar story to the ones we have about Cook.

Firstly, are players of the current era that bothered about making history? Kaka wasn't, Buffon wasn't, Terry wasn't, Eto'o wasn't. If they were then why didn't they sign? Perhaps they and their people thought Cook was a pillock?

Secondly, are the players who 'made history' at Chelsea revered in the manner you describe here? Seriously. Will Drogba, Robben, Makalele be 'recognised the world over and talked about for years, no fuck it, centuries to come.'?? I'm not sure they will be. They will be at Chelsea but I don't think any of these players will be talked of in the same terms as Puskas and Di Stefano.

Edge has a valid point. In fact, apart from the money...and some of our targets already have more than enough, our project is our only selling point and making history the best way of selling it.

We are in an unusual position at the moment, quite unlike any other club. We haven't won any major trophy for too many years, yet we have a bagful of cash and massive ambition. The very best players don't have to take any chances with their careers. Money apart we are not that attractive. Like it or lump it, we have money and hope.

I think Cook and marwood will struggle to get in those top guys and if they do land some big fish, they will have done very well indeed.

but i would say that as usual there is a lot of going to extremes to make a point here ( anti cook ? ).

If you listen carefully to what they sometimes say i think you will find that a number of of players.. Tevez springs to mind, who have said they are here because of the project and want to be part of the group that make City successful. I think Kompany has hinted at this.. DeJong and Bellemy.

I noticed Kenyon has been mentioned a few times as an alternative to Cook/Marwood. That's funny as IIRC he was seen as a real slimeball. Remember the Ashley Cole situation? Tapping up Sven whilst the England boss? He was seen by many parties as an embarrasment. I think it just comes with the territory for people in that kind of position, esp when you have to be aggressive to get what the club needs.

I'm assuming that City get diddled by many of the established old guard because at the moment it's easy to do so - we're the new upstarts. It's probably a more difficult situation than what Kenyon had at Chelsea because Chelsea were more established and therefore an easier package to sell. And the media operating 24/7 on rumours and sauces really doesn't help does it.

If Cook was that bad, he would've been booted out a while ago. He's lasted this long as the CEO so Khaldoon must see the value he adds to the club as a whole (Marwood too).
